WTF??? I cannot believe these ratings for FAUX news Shows

Are these ratings for real?

What is the methodology in which they reach these numbers?

1. Cable news show ratings are pitiful overall

When you compare them to network ratings.

Katy Curic gets more than 4x the audience Faux does, and she's in last place in network news shows.

8. Average Faux News viewer is just under the age of 65

Faux will fold as soon as their viewers die out.

12. Did you look at the 25-34 numbers?
Primetime FNC share is roughly CNN + MSNBC + HLN among 25-34.

Kinda a pipe dream to think they will just "die out" due to demographics.

19. The 25-34 demographic are a fraction of the total numbers

There's not enough of the demographic to keep Faux afloat.

25. Well then every cable channel will fail using that logic.
Every other cable news channel has LOWER total and LOWER % for 25-34.

It's not like they're serving the public good.

3. And, this Glenn Beck thing...what's up with that?
He certainly found his "niche" (or should I say, his kind) there at Fox. He's "all hat and no cattle," and that fits in quite nicely in the land of dittohead thinking.

9. No wonder his demo is 65+ white men.
Most people are either still at work or driving home at that time and most retired women are gardening, participating in community events or staying active. Only old white men are at home (no offense to the old white men of DU who break the stereotype. :) )

11. Check your local listings under:
batshit, delusional, seditionist ramblings from an hysterical cry-baby who riles up every dead-ender paranoid wingnut so that he can make tons of cash to live in suburban Connecticut in a huge mansion and play golf with Wall Street bankers every weekend.

You'll find the schedule of his show under that.

10. But these are people that don't read the interwebs. Or even read for that matter.
Considering the quality of TV, being on the top of a pile of shit ain't much of an accomplishment.

AKA doesn't buy into M$M propaganda

23. It's even more ironic when they complain about the M$M.
When their cheerleaders ARE the M$M. Fox, Rush, etc.

20. Exactly. thinking people don't reply on the M$M for news
so the high ratings speak poorly for the kind of viewers Faux gets.

13. It really shouldn't be that suprising
Look at the 2008 exit polls.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2008#Voter_demographics

Liberal: 22%
Moderate: 34%
Conservative: 44%

So roughly 44% of voters are a self described conservative (regardless of political affiliation).
Who is that 44% most likely to watch?

I used ideology numbers not party numbers because party numbers tend to flucate when a party is out of favor (like Reps were/are).
When that happens people are less likely to identify themselves w/ the failed party and call themselves independents.

Same thing has happened to Dems in the past.
Someone could call themselves a Rep, then an Independent, then a Dem (because they like Obama) in 3 consecutive elections.

Ideology takes MUCH LONGER to change.
Ideology is more like distilled political party extract. It is "in a perfect world I think things should be like this".

14. Normal people have many different news outlets on cable...
and network TV. Morons have only one place to go, FAUXNEWS. That's it. Add up all of the rest and stand them next to FAUX and the wingnut channel looks pretty tiny.

16. Given the conflict of interest re GE/NBC being a major defense contractor, how factual is their POV?
Inevitable bias to protect and promote business interests.

24. And that has what to do with fox news?
If you live in the real world and you don't take public information with a grain of salt then you are just a sheep. That is most of the population of the USA. Think about how many non-voters there are. Who cares what they think? They don't do anything about it.

28. Unsure what your point is...but FAUX also serves as a red herring of sorts...
Since the right-wing cheerleader perception is so obvious, it makes people think that if they instead hang their hat on CNN/NBC and its offshoots they'll get a less biased view - which may be true-ish by degrees, but mainstream media will always serve corporate interests ahead of engaging in actual journalism as Fourth Estate, serving as checks and balance between Power and The People.

17. That (probably) includes waiting rooms & convenience stores where the TV is on
*all* the time. Then, just factor in the legal 'maximum occupancy' of those places= voila!

18. Okay - I have something weird that goes on at my house and wonder if this is something to do with it
It's really strange, and very annoying.

We have Dish Network. I also have cordless headphones to my tv. Yeah, I'm that much of a political junkie that I don't want to miss a thing if I'm in another room, or outside, or my daughter is blasting music.

Anyway, if I turn on the headphones before I turn on the tv, I can hear Faux news.
I don't know if it's picking up on one of my neighbors signals but it happens all of the time.
And I'm wondering if whatever machine does their ratings is thinking that I am watching faux.

Why me? :(

21. Remember that Fox is turned on in most waiting rooms, tv store displays
lobbies, etc. If you see one turned to FOX, flip it. It's an irritation to me to walk into a waiting room and see that junk news on.

27. Doesn't Faux pay
Doesn't Faux pay such places (car dealerships, bars, hotels, truckstops, doctor's & dentist office's, etc.) to keep tv's tuned to their garbage? I know my car dealership has all their tv's tuned to Faux.

29. Some Perspective Needed...
There are over 200 million cable viewers in the country...nearly the remaining 100 million don't have cable (but do have a teevee). Divide down the numbers and those watching the cable news channels are small...even in comparison to other channels.

Profiles of the Faux audience show many are over the age of 50...an age group that has far fewer programming aimed at them, thus they congregate on channels that do, such as Faux. Younger people have a far more varied menu of watching...for example, the huge number of younger people who watch The Daily Show. They share a lot more in common with MTV or Spike than they do with Faux or CNN.

Finally, in the bigger scheme of things, the 2,000,000 viwers that Faux may draw pales in comparison to the 20 million who still watch a nightly network or local newscast.

As usual, the devil are in the details. The Faux numbers show a very loyal audience...and not even 5% of those who voted for Gramps last year.
