I Like Ike
Under Eisenhower, the people who made 90% of the money paid 90% tax rates.

Sounds good to me.

1. I think that was the policy basically under FDR & Truman too, you know who changed it?
JFK lowered taxes on everybody including the wealthy--that is why when Reagan was pledging to cut taxes across the board, including the wealthy, he pointed to JFK's tax cuts.

4. Didn't JFK lower the highest bracket to 70%?
And, there were so many deductions available then that hardly anyone paid that rate. I remember when Nelson Rockefeller released his tax returns when he was VP and I discovered that I had paid about as much Federal tax as he had - and I was a full time student and part time worker at the time - and no one questioned the deductions Rockefeller had taken.

Reagan not only lowered the tax rates for the wealthy, he did away with deductions (like consumer interest) that largely benefited the middle class.

5. He also oversaw the CIA plot that restored the Shah in Iran,
thereby providing a motive for Iranians to take Americans hostage 30+ years later.

His CIA overthrew the democratically elected government of Guatemala to appease the United Fruit Company, destroying stability in the region for decades.

Under Ike the CIA planned what would become the Bay of Pigs fiasco--hey, it worked so well in Guatemala, why not overthrow Castro too? JFK did OK this, so he also get his fair share of blame.

He did not condemn Joseph McCarthy until McCarthy went after Ike precious army; Eisenhower also refused to provide any leadership on Civil Rights, intervening only when federal power was threatened by Arkansas' governor.

Face it, he was lucky enough to be president during a time of US economic expansion--he screwed up pretty much everything else, and gave us Richard Nixon to boot.

No, I don't like Ike.
