Kids Literally Smoking CANDY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=503RlBQfE7Q

It's taking place in lunchrooms, playgrounds and classrooms across the tri-state area.

It may even be happening in your own home -- kids smoking candy.

But doctors and safety experts say this new trend isn't so sweet.

Every so often, 18-year-old Jeremy Froncek says he sneaks a smoke.

"Around the house, ya know, outside of work," Froncek said.

But he's not puffing on cigarettes. He's "smoking" candy.

It sounds bizarre -- even impossible. But kids grind up pieces of candy -- like "Smarties" – and they actually inhale the fine candy powder then blow it out like cigarette smoke.

Okay! This is a new one for me...

7. In the video it shows a young child with baby hands doing a "line"
Disturbing to see. I wonder if there will be long term lung issues from this.

9. When I was in middle school-
Edited on Sat Apr-11-09 09:59 AM by Mother Of Four
It was Pixie sticks.

After a rash of sinus infections, and a couple kids in the hospital for lung infections it stopped.

Personally, I thought it was silly/stupid then...and still do now.

The whole theory behind it was they could blow smoke without really smoking.

Then a few got the bright :sarcasm: idea to snort it cause "It's only sugar!"

(Just out of curiosity I image searched it and some idiots are STILL doing it)

11. Pixie sticks have a high level of malic acid
It's what puts the "sour" taste in candies. That alone will screw up your mucous membranes such as nasal passages and lungs.

Although I have no idea what effect pure sugar does.

16. They are sucking the dust into their mouths not their lungs.
He even says if you breathe it in, it will hurt. Sucking candy dust like using a straw. Not as bad as it sounds.

17. If you get upset and freak out, call the news and the PTA
It will give them exactly what they want. Please, this is so being done to flip out the easily upset.

How do I know? That's why I would have done it.

Look at the kid in the video, he's not pulling anything into his lungs. It's powdered sugar and lungs are wet, how's it going to come back out in a powder form. Think about how much you'd have to inhale. Hell, if he did the coughing fit would probably ensure that was the only time he tried.

"It may even be happening in your own home" Ahhhhh!!!! Someone! Ban Candy! Before it steals the vital fluids of a whole generation like pixie sticks and pop rocks.
