TruGreen - is this the company that will not go away??

Is this the company that will not go away?

We tried them last year for some services, eventually decided we didn't want to (and couldn't) pay for them any more any cancelled their services.

Someone called the other day to apply treatment, we told him we had cancelled.

Someone rang the doorbell the other morning, wanted to know what our plans for lawn service was this year, and I explained we weren't in a position to do lawn service this year (I'm unemployed and have cancer, although I didn't specify that).

Just now they called and wanted to know what our plans for lawn service was this year. I was what would normally be taken as rude, but given all the other times we've told them we don't want them, I felt I had to be more explicit.

They are constantly calling, or visiting, and it's really pissing us off.

1. I think you have to use the magic words:
"Please put me on your Do Not Call List."

(Telling them you canceled or you can't afford it doesn't specifically instruct them not to call you again.)

And then if they contact you again, file a complaint online through the better business bureau.

8. Call the ATTORNEY GENERAL. That DO NOT CALL list isn't a suggestion.
It's law.

2. Their sales force works on commission.
If you're on the list, you will be contacted until you get off that list.

3. Tell them that you are salting your yard this year and won't be needing their services ever again
They're probably desperate for business. With the current economic mess, more and more people are going back to mowing their own yard. I know a guy who does small engine repair, and he hasn't seen this many people dragging in old, stored lawnmowers for refurbishing and repair in a long, long time. People are digging out the old Briggs and Strattons in the back of their garages, getting them fixed up and will do the yard themselves. Personally I think that's a good thing. Mowing services tend to burn way too much energy than somebody who does their own yard.

6. I have a nice mower, we don't use them for that

We used them for refreshing the lawn, but no matter how many times we tell them we don't want their services any more, they continue to contact us. They are most annoying, and do not take a hint.

4. They kept calling me when I lived in an apartment (NO yard and had never used their service)
Edited on Sat Apr-11-09 11:52 AM by Triana
I had to report them to the Consumer Rights Division of my AG's office in my state to get them to stop. It was damned rediculous. This was about 6-8 years ago though. I lived in an apartment. I had NO yard. I had never used their services for anything. Ever.

They're persistent little gnats. They always have been. This isn't new behavior for them because of the economic downturn ie: they need the business. They've ALWAYS been obnoxious and will be until you threaten them with lawsuits or fines (or your state's consumer rights division does) to get them to stop.

Or, at least that was the case with me.

5. Tell them if they call again, you'll sue
Might leave you alone after that.

7. Had almost the same experience with Scott's lawn service a couple years ago.
They just wouldn't believe I'd fired them. I'd explained to both local and corporate offices that their work sucked and they charged me for unapproved services despite promising they'd always ask me beforehand.

9. They finally stopped calling once I explained that I would be calling the police...
...and pressing harassment charges if they did not stop.

10. Yep, happened to me, too.
I finally had to threaten them with criminal telephone harassment charges.

It took a few days, because I had to threaten 2 or 3 different people from TruGreen...but they stopped.

You can NOT be nice to these people.
