Go Pat Toomey!!! You are the democrat's greatest gift because if you beat Arlen Specter in the republican primaries for the US Senate - you just gave that seat to the democrats. Does the fact that the last 3 major statewide races in Pennsylvania where the republican was a right-wing crazy went double digit for the democrats including your mentor Rick Santorum?

There may be enough crazy right-wing nutjobs in Pennsylvania to give you a victory in the primaries but tehre aren't enough to give you the win in the main election. You'd have to totally shut out Philadelphia to get your win (and if I have anything to do wiith it - that will not happen!)

So go Pat Toomey!! And Democrats, get us a good candidate to run so we can turn Pennsylvania totally blue in 2010

1. I guess the best case scenario would be for Toomey to run against a
good Dem. But, this probably means Specter is done with his unreliable, occasional swing vote in the Senate to our side.

2. There aren't enough right-wing republicans to give Toomey a win
Santorum and Swann both lost by close to 20pts. McCain lost by 11pts.

Pennsylvania has way too many democrats and a large segment of moderate/independents - right-wing ideologues do not have a chance in Pennsylvania.

The democrats just need someone who isn't an embarrassment and they can win this one. By getting the vote out in Philadelphia - the rest of the state can't compete. I've worked enough campaigns in Philly to know how they get the voter turnout to ensure the victory.

And the bonus in all of this is the Governor's race. Right now there is no clear candidate for governor but if we have a 'Santorum-wannabe' on the republican ticket it's gonna get strong turnout by democrats and that's going to help favor the democratics for governor race too.
