They were in Niagara Square today... about 60 of them when I was walking by.
So I got out my cell and took a few picks. Unfortunately it's only 2 megapixels, so they didn't turn out too well.
Then I went up and looked at some of their signs. One 'lady' had a sign that claimed Obama 'talked trash' about America to the rest of the world.
Me; "Wow! When did he do that?"
'Lady'; "Just recently".
"Wow... what did he say?"
"He put America down in front of the world!"
"Ok, what did he say?"
"He said we're arrogant."
"What was the quote? He just said "America is arrogant"?"
"I don't know what the quote was."
"Did he say anything else? Did he say anything good about America?"
"I don't know, that's not important! What are you doing here? This is our event!"
"Well, it's a public square, and I was curious. You want people to know what this is about, right?"
"Just leave!"
I know... how dare I ask about the merits of their claims. :eyes:
Soon there was a wing of harpies on me. One woman said that Obama didn't understand the Constitution. I told her that he was a Constitutional scholar who likely understood the Constitution better than we did. Then she said that 'No! He wants to interpret it as a socialist document. It's NOT a living document! He doesn't think we're a Christian nation!'
I got "You're Michael Moore's brother."
"You're probably sent by ACORN!"
"You don't belong here!"
But I stood, and calmly explained that I was merely asking questions, because discourse, discussion are how we achieve understanding.
"No it isn't!" Screeched the first harpy. "Oh, I suppose next you'll say that 'words mean things'".
:wtf:
The level of ignorance and beligerance was amazing.
But then, a young man who was standing in front of me asked what I thought.
I said that I was disgusted by the bailouts and that there were plenty of big players that should simply fail, and whose CEOs and upper management should be fined or jailed. We went on to talk about the good and bad aspects of the spending package, and he admitted that he couldn't be sure which parts of the plan had a worthwhile return on investment. He was generally interested in what I had to say about corporate control of government. We had a good chat while the mouth-breathers looked on figuring that the kid was 'handling' me or something. Oh, and it was really cool that I got to talk about the negative return on investment we got for the trillion spent on Iraq, and then watch their faces when the one intellect among them said that at least this spending package wouldn't be as big a waste. Then of course the chorus of "But we were kept safe!" erupted. I couldn't help it... I said, "well... except for that nasty attack on the skyscrapers." But then I just ignored them and talked to the kid some more.
Oh well.
It's just really something to actually be in the midst of people who are so deeply brainwashed in anger, but it was neat to find one rational person among all the freeptards.
