So, Santa Rosa has a population of about 160,000. As far as I know, this was the only tea bag whinefest, um, protest, in the North Bay region. I'm going to be generous and say that maybe there were 100 people there, but in reality I think the number was more like 70-80, if that.
The crowd was 100% white. Not a single person of color. A few weeks ago the local Latino population staged an anti-immigrant raid protest, and their numbers dwarfed this. Most of the crowd was older with a few young people there. The younger people seemed to be more Ron Paul freestater types than freepers. Some of them held out signs pimping Alex Jones and how he was the source of truth or they had signs that criticized bank bailouts, which I'm actually sympathetic to.
All in all, I got to give the morans credit for at least getting out there and organizing the whole thing, but this was far from a blowout event. Nationwide, their numbers are nothing even approaching the anti-war protests that the left has been able to organize. The last anti-war protest I went to in Santa Rosa had a crowd of hundreds, and the ones in San Francisco always had anywhere from thousands to tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands.
The thing I just can't get over is just how disconnected from reality these people seem to be. So many signs saying things like, "Taxed enough!" "No more spending." Socialsim=slavery." Do these people really not realize that Obama just cut their taxes? You tell them this, and it's like it doesn't register. It's like they've been programmed by some guy waving a watch back and forth to just not hear this. And where were all of them the last eight years when Bush ran spending out of control? And unlike Obama, we got no jobs, no infrastructure investment, nothing to show for it but dead soldiers and a diminished standing in the world.
All in all, well they managed to get off their collective asses and do something. But that something isn't going to be nearly enough. No doubt they will pump this up as being a hugely successful event. But then again, they don't really live in reality, do they? Thus concludes my report.
