I'm gonna go out and buy me a Henry rifle....
At the office, I have Dish Network rather than cable, and all of a sudden, on MSNBC's channel, we have 6-10 ads a day for The Henry Rifle Company. Anyone who's seen this will know that it's one of those "this is the time to stock up on armaments" ads and it is quite compelling if one were a Teabagger/RWer.

Obviously, they're appealing to the pitchfork crowd.

My question is: is this the same company's Henry rifle which was popularized in the film Silverado?

13. A joke.
"A joke is a short story or ironic depiction of a situation communicated with the intent of being humorous. These jokes will normally have a punch line that will end the sentence to make it humorous. A joke can also be a single phrase or statement that employs sarcasm. The word joke can also be used as a slang term for a person or thing which is not taken seriously by others in general. A practical joke or prank differs from a spoken one in that the major component of the humour is physical rather than verbal (for example placing salt in the sugar bowl).

Jokes are typically for the entertainment of friends and onlookers. The desired response is generally laughter; when this does not happen the joke is said to have "fallen flat"."

Cigarette companies were run off the air years ago, and liquor commercials are rare.

It's high time the standard for American TV were not based on what's appropriate for some soccer mom's 3 year old. The sugar coating should to be rinsed off.

The U.S. needs to grow up, and stop acting like a band of self-appointed Taliban morality police marauding through Kabul in a Nissan pick-up.

38. We had a more rural population in the 30's.
Sadly, many probably had to sell their arms for food, especially those in OK.

The RWers are using the only weapon they have; fear. Be afraid of this or that. If a company wants to take advantage of that to sell product, so what?

The tea party turnout is a pretty good indicator of how many would join a "militia". :eyes:

I wasn't disrespecting the rifle...I was, once again, mentioning that in all these years of watching TV, among all the products I've seen from peas to industrial lawnmowers, I had never ever seen an ad for a firearm. Amidst all the RWers calling for the taking up of arms, doesn't it seem as though the company, rightly from a capitalist motivation - nothing wrong with that - saw fit to advertise nationally on Dish Network.

original Henry rifle from the 1860's. The Henry Rifles are made in the USA in New York. Their rifles have a very nice fit and finish which is very rare for an American product today and they are affordable. They are a nice little rim-fire rifle and I think you show your ignorance when you say it is only compelling to a teabagger/RWer. There are many here on DU I am sure that also would be interested in the Henry. Just because you may not like guns doesn't make you superior to those of us that do. It is a .22 rimfire rifle not some scary looking so called assault rifle so I don't think anyone is going to commit any mass murders with one.

a gun ad on TV but I don't see anything wrong with it, it's a legal product. They advertise Big Macs on TV and they are probably responsible for more deaths than the Henry rifle. The way it sounded you think only a right-wing nut case would be interested in them. One of our local TV stations has a 1/2 hour infomercial for the Henry on late at night. I would like to get a new .22 and was thinking of getting the Ruger 10/22. I saw the infomercial on the Henry and may buy one of them instead. I have looked at them in the store and I was very impressed that we can still make a product of such quality in the USA. We have been led to believe it was too costly to make a quality product in the USA.

There is only one Henry Rifle (at least in the Wild West)...
It was built by New Haven Arms in the 1860s, which later became Winchester Repeating Arms (Winchester was the biggest stockholder in New Haven). The Henry became the Winchester Model 1866.

Not sure where the new Henry Repeating Arms came from.

68. Well, some potential buyers (some in this thread) have examined
this replica in person at a gun shop

They, unanimously, say they were impressed with the quality of this weapon.

I'd like to have a .22 and, if I had the money to spare, would consider it a candidate

71. Probably. The Henry repeating rifle dates to the early 1860's...

and while the name has changed hands many times since, the guns they sell now are still quite similar to the Civil War era rifles. Abraham Lincoln owned one.

History: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_rifle

Modern Henry rifle:

If the Brady Campaign had been around in 1860, they would have called it a "rapid-fire military style rifle capable of rapidly spraying 17 rounds without reloading." :eyes:

BTW, the factory is in Brooklyn, IIRC.
