Women are not objects "to be allowed" to do ANYTHING.
For fuck's sake. You're not my daddy. You're not my master.

I am ALLOWED to do any fucking thing I want. Maybe some of it is illegal, but I do not need some fucktwitter to tell me what I am ALLOWED to do or not to do.

:nuke:

24. You're a noncomformist...
...thinker, evidently. :)

It could be taken in the way that you suggest but attitudes toward women are just not far enough out of the Dark Ages, for us to rest easy. In other parts of the world, and among many here in the West, we are--or should be--mere sexual resources, expected to behave only as men allow.

17. Words shapes thoughts. Thoughts shape attitudes.
We need to call out this BS wherever and whenever we see it--whether its aimed at women; LGBT people; ethnic, national, or religious minorities; or any law-abiding individual who, somehow, doesn't look or behave precisely as the dominant culture believes she or he should.

26. It's the "law abiding" part that is the catch..
There are so many laws these days that I doubt there is such a thing as a completely "law abiding" adult..

I break the law every day, my home is technically illegal in the county in which I reside, if I were forced to follow the law to the letter I would end up homeless since I have literally nowhere else to go.

29. My intention was to exclude those who harm others.
"Law-abiding" was as close as I could get without including a laundry list of perpetrators of crimes against people.

Oh, and I don't know why your home is illegal but I won't turn you in. ;)

30. My home is a camper parked on property which belongs to my daughter and son in law..
If we were in a subdivision I'd have been busted a long time ago, someone would have dropped the dime on me to the code enforcement people.

But since we are on relatively secluded acreage with two family homes and several other outbuildings there is no one to complain, but the fact is it is just as unlawful for me to be living as I do where I am as it would be in a subdivision.

"Law abiding" just has too many caveats to use in the way you wish to use it, IMO.

And besides, there is a great deal of disagreement on just what constitutes harm to others as well, as I have been strongly reminded today by reading the threads about the airline charging passengers who cannot fit in one seat for an extra seat in some circumstances, the flame wars there were considerably more intense than I would have guessed before reading the thread.

You may have heard, the economy is not doing well right now and a lot of people are struggling. Well, I'm one of the struggling ones.

I'm one person with two quite small dogs and not very much stuff, I don't *need* a whole damn house even if I could afford it.

31. Yes yes yes!!!!!
I agree completely! I am so sick of patriarchal society and it's strict rules on all but the dominant males, it is time to rid the world of that crap. I feel guilt sometimes because I can leave my house alone and not be beaten or arrested; while so many women in the world can't. I didn't get acid thrown in my face when I was a little girl for daring to go to school. And my father didn't set me on fire for having sex with my boyfriend in college.

And even in our free society I was threatened with arrest a few years ago at a college football game for yelling loudly about a bad call (as so many men in my section were blatantly doing), and yet I, completely sober, was picked out of the screaming crowd to be harassed and threatened by a cop? Maybe I wasn't acting like a "proper" little southern girl a a football game??? You think? And then the cop stood off to the side and stared at me for the next quarter to the point that I didn't even cheer for a touchdown for fear of being hauled off to jail. While men could yell as they pleased all around me.

So sick of all this crap. But at least I cannot legally be beaten by my husband for burning his toast. Nor can he legally slit my throat because I curse over bad calls in sports and cause a "loss of honor". And my five year old niece won't be sold by my brother-in-law to some old man when she is 8 or 9 to rape to death for fun.

Sometimes I think men just hate us. Then I think religion makes them hate us, if they don't hate us enough they will go to hell. A friend of mine thinks men are afraid of women, and she says they have good reason after all they have done to us throughout history. And another friend says the dominant males feel threatened by anything they perceive as "feminine", and they lump gay men in with the women in the "feminine" group (though I have known some gay men I wouldn't exactly refer to as feminine).

If only these dominant male bastards could be secure in their sexuality for God's sake!
:D :D :D

35. A Kentucky woman was harassed at a restaurant
for breast feeding her baby in a booth in the back of a restaurant. She quoted the law to the restaurant manager that specifically permits women in our state to feed their babies in public and not be bothered. And the restaurant manager said people were complaining because of her "exposure" and she had to cover up or feed her baby in the bathroom.

When breasts are seen as only sexual objects for the pleasure of MEN to the point that some poor woman is threatened to trying to be a good mother, you have to wonder. Maybe allowing women to go shirtless just as men are allowed would end the insanity over the frightening sight of said body parts.

Yeah, I signed up here in 2002 using Ellen Ripley's last name. Admire her quite a bit.

However, You would not believe how many people assume and reply to me as a male, heh.

Interesting take on the movie, Mike. Me? I just think it's about hostile beings we may encounter in outerspace. The alien creature was actually based upon wasps and their habits. I'm an artist, so I also loved the dark and scary work of HR Giger upon which the alien creature as well as the offworld alien landscape was designed.

Damn. But I am ALLOWED to do all that!

Hey Mike, what the hell are you talking about? I find it odd that anyone would find Giger their "hero."

And tarot cards? What does that mean?

I cannot speak for Giger, but I know he lived through bombing of WWII and was a heroin addict for a long time.

a male character. Like, can't Hollywood ever write strong women on purpose? But at least the end product was fantastic. I wonder if we'll see something similar for the upcoming (2010) "Salt"...it's a spy movie that had originally cast Tom Cruise. After he dropped out, they gave it to Angelina Jolie, and reportedly aren't making any script changes.
