Susan Boyle's Performance Viewed Over 66 Million Times In One Week

Susan Boyle is headed for the history books.

The online video of Boyle's performance in the reality show "Britain's Got Talent" has set the record for the number of views in a week -- and shows no sign of stopping.

According to Visible Measures, which tracks videos from YouTube, MySpace and other video-sharing sites, Boyle's audition has generated 66.3 million views. On YouTube alone, it's been viewed more than 30 million times. The 7-minute video that was posted on YouTube last Saturday and then widely circulated online easily eclipsed more high-profile videos that have been around for months. Tina Fey's impersonation of Sarah Palin has clocked in 34.2 million views, said the folks at Visible Measures, while President Obama's victory speech on election night has generated 18.5 million views. In less than a week, Boyle topped them.

But it's not just online video where Boyle, the unassuming woman from a tiny Scottish town, has dominated. Over the weekend, her Facebook fan page was flooded with comments, at some points adding hundreds of new members within a minute. The page listed 150,000 members on 1 p.m. Friday. It grew to 850,000 by 6 a.m. Sunday. Her Wikipedia entry has attracted nearly half a million page views since it was created last Sunday.

I have never seen anything so staged in a way to capture the public imagination. I think the Octomom made a few misses because she was going it alone. She should have been hooked up with a teevee show.

It is hilarious how the people rolling their eyes, start their expressions of amazed wonderment a second or two before she even opens her mouth. Just watched the video. I can't believe this is the hit that it is and that somehow it speaks to liberal or compassionate sensibilities to get sucked in by this staged, reality show nonsense.

She is the antithesis of the Duggars and Octomom, imo. She actually has a reason to be famous and has not lived a live of using people (children) for her own selfish purposes.

Yet you might want to ask yourself:

Regardless of whether the specific instance is true -even if it was contrived, does it not have merit?

Quite the opposite of the Duggars- and sure as anything, not like California fertility clinics.

cynicism is so ingrained in some people that they cannot see the goodness and genuineness of something that is spontaneous and pure. But then again, it could be just me. The day I am not moved by goodness is the day I will cap myself.

You would tell some anonymous stranger on the internet that they should off themselves because they can't appreciate some reality show nonsense the way you do? (Or at least hint that in a passive aggressive way).

I called the Boyle phenomenon dumb but as cynical and untouched by "purity" (God the hyperbole is off the wall) as I am I don't recollect telling people I disagree with over a dumb reality show to go off themselves.

I am just amused by this now. You are right though. I should be spending my evening in a better way than by riling up people unhinged enough to become this belligerent and self-righteous over a reality show. Who knows? those that aren't beautiful rich and well connected, finally want to stand up and say WE MATTER! WE ARE OF VALUE! THERE IS BEAUTY IN US TOO! For so long-especially since Reagan's time-we've all been trained to believe that the "haves" deserve even more while the have-nots never deserved anything to begin with. The teabaggers desperately cling to that idea; they don't care that they will personally be getting a tax cut. They don't want the status quo shaken up. They honestly believe that someday they, too, will be a member of the ruling elite, and they damn well want to rule with impunity! The rest of us have had enough; we like seeing one of our own celebrated for not "staying in her place". I hope that thousands of Susan Boyles come out of the shadows to remind that wealthy 1% that we are every bit as valuable in this world as they are.

Diane Sawyer, et al. on the other hand- they're artifacts of the latter half of 20th Century.

No amount of surgery- no make up and no botox can hide how they are.

The facades are falling- and it's wonderful to see.

She is already a multimillionaire, guaranteed. And her album will be maybe the biggest seller ever. I sure hope people like Simon Cowell don't just exploit her, but protect her. She will need it. A learning disabled 47 year old woman who lives alone with her cat??

We all need to be ready to call out anybody who seeks to exploit her.
