Why is Newt Gingrich's face on my TV so often?
Edited on Mon Apr-20-09 11:19 AM by Cyrano
Yeah, I know that he wants to be president. But my guess is that he has as much chance of becoming president as Glen Beck or Ann Coulter. About the only one who doesn't seem to understand that is Newt himself.

So why are the cable "news" networks and the Sunday morning "news" shows giving him so much face time? The networks and most cable stations are owned by corporations, but do the CEOs really believe that they can get Newt into the White House? Are they still living in some Bush/Cheney/Rove fantasy parallel universe?

Newt, here's some advice. Take your hypocrisy, your propaganda, and your hatreds someplace else. Stop polluting my TV. Stop polluting politics. Stop polluting America. Just go away. And take the rest of the GOP with you, along with the hate-peddlers that pollute our radios, and the know-nothings and rednecks who buy into people like you.

4. It's because he doesn't have a REAL job.

He gets paid for TV appearances, which lead to speaking engagements, where he makes even more money.

And that leads to book deals. The more his mug is in the RW public domain, the more money he makes.

6. The GOP really really needs someone "smart" to counter Obama.
They believe Newt is "smart", which should tell you something.

The GOP thinks they are using Newt to get at Obama.

Newt thinks he is using th GOP to run for president.

The circle goes round and round.

7. The Repubs have no leaders, so they scraped the bottom of the barrel for the
Newtster. He's supposed to be so "smart" and full of brilliant ideas. This is their answer to Obama blowing the doors off of all of their
rising stars in the brains dept. You're right though, Newt is damaged goods. I doubt he has much of a chance in a real election. Of course,
that doesn't matter to the MSM, they just want a mouthpiece for the RW asshats who isn't quite as scary as Rush.

8. I don't watch Fox "News" or CNN. We don't get MSNBC. None of that is news,
and the shows like MTP are junk now.

13. actually the round table yesteday on MTP was good.
For a Sunday show, that is. They've all really gone downhill somehow.

I'm starting a new Sunday ritual, and that is to watch Cspan's Washington Journal via my DVR. It may be really slow paced but I get to hear ordinary people calling in, and the host usually reads newspaper articles. A nice change of pace from weekday cable news.

9. One possible explanation is that you have your television confused with your toilet bowl.
That would account for it.

12. Look around. All the GOP have done a runner. Hell, MTP needed to dig up DICK ARMEY to get
a GOP legislative voice on their panel yesterday.

There's a profound leadership vacuum over on the other side. That's why so many people, from Newt to Meghan McCain to Palin, are stepping up--they're ready for their close-up, Mister DeMille...and each one thinks they have a shot at being "The Voice" around which the "New GOP" coalesces.

Newt's smarter than most. He understands that you don't just grab the base, you've gotta grab the mushy middle, the "lean right" crowd, the "undecideds," and of course, the racists, sexists and homophobes.

To get in front of THOSE people, you can't just go to GOP rallies and love/hatefests. You've gotta get on the tee vee, so those mushy middle people can see ya!

16. He's not under indictment
and left Congress before that was a possibility. He's able to parade himself as an honest servant of the people and an honored elder statesman. In addition, he can talk without disgracing himself, unlike the rest of the party under Palin and Joe the Bummer.

The media really want to cling to a Republican majority, on the news if not in fact. Republicans were good to their parent corporations, allowing only six corporations to own most of the news outlets in the country.

That's why Gingrich is on.
