Two Documentaries On Global Warming - Which one tells the truth?

A freeper rants in today’s AZ Republic Letters section about a British documentary entitled “The Great Global Warming Swindle” criticizing Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” Who are the “scientists” trying to discredit “the oft-repeated notion that there is scientific consensus regarding global warming”.

The writer is encouraging everyone to see both films to decide for themselves who to believe, “the scientists or the politician”. I’m sorry to admit I have not seen either film, but common sense tells me global warming is for real.

1. The "debunking" documentary...
...has already been debunked. Several of the scientists he interviewed disavowed the movie, saying the director had an agenda and took their statements out of context. In addition, it's not that he even attempts to debunk the reality of global climate change, he just tries to say it's "not our fault".

5. I think people
who have no discernable skills, no ethics to speak of, and little understanding of anything that wasn't told to them followed by a Faux Snooze swoosh sound does not get recorded in their brains.

These are the folks who trade loyalty to the party line, regardless of wisdom or factuality for 'a seat at the table.'
I refer to most of them as 'future lotto winners of Murika."

But the ones who fall to there knees quickest find themselves on the poor relations dole line of the global fascism gravy train.

Climate scientist ‘duped to deny global warming’

A Leading US climate scientist is considering legal action after he says he was duped into appearing in a Channel 4 documentary that claimed man-made global warming is a myth. Carl Wunsch, professor of physical oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said the film, The Great Global Warming Swindle, was ‘grossly distorted’ and ‘as close to pure propaganda as anything since World War Two’.

He says his comments in the film were taken out of context and that he would not have agreed to take part if he had known it would argue that man-made global warming was not a serious threat. ‘I thought they were trying to educate the public about the complexities of climate change,’ he said. ‘This seems like a deliberate attempt to exploit someone who is on the other side of the issue.’ He is considering a complaint to Ofcom, the broadcast regulator. - Guardian

Professor Wunsch said: “I am angry because they completely misrepresented me. My views were distorted by the context in which they placed them. I was misled as to what it was going to be about. I was told about six months ago that this was to be a programme about how complicated it is to understand what is going on. If they had told me even the title of the programme, I would have absolutely refused to be on it. I am the one who has been swindled.” - Independent

Now why would the makers of this film have to dupe a climatologist? I hope he sues them.

The message in An Inconvenient Truth, the new movie starring former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, is clear: Humans are causing global warming, and the effects are devastating.

Most scientists agree that the Earth is heating up, due primarily to an atmospheric increase in carbon dioxide caused mainly by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum.

But how accurate are some of the scientific claims made in the documentary?

In an attemp to clear the air, National Geographic News checked in with Eric Steig, an earth scientist at the University of Washington in Seattle, who saw An Inconvenient Truth at a preview screening.

He says the documentary handles the science well.

"I was looking for errors," he said.

"But nothing much struck me as overblown or wrong."

Claim: According to the film, the number of Category 4 and Category 5 hurricanes has almost doubled in the last year.

"This is true," Steig said. "There is no theoretical basis for the notion that this is a cycle."

A study published in the journal Nature in August found that hurricanes and typhoons have become more powerful over the past 30 years.

8. The phony doc. is made by the UK's version of John Stossel
half of interviews come from a fringe European Stalinist communist group, who, for some reason, don't believe in global warming. Of course he doesn't tell you this. Neither did Drudge or Hannity when they hyped this film.

The director has a history of controversy. Among his past claims are : genetically-engineered food is better for you, silicone breast implants have helth benefits, limiting pollution can kill you...and a bunchof other

he has zero credibility and is actually better described asd a mix between stossel and art bell.

9. Which one tells the truth? Only you can decide that
You don't need one of us to tell you that. This country is in shambles because we listen to modern day oracles (scientists) who often have no greater input than we do, barring a greater knowledge of facts. If they cannot use those facts, their opinion is just another opinion...so make your voice heard. Do you believe humans cause global warming, or do you think it's natural? I don't remember anyone in history, before the times of automobiles, talking about great disasters as the result of the planet becoming too hot...so that's my opinion ;)

10. You're blindfolded, and running.
You are told there is a cliff in front of you. Do you continue running, or do you stop and try to assess the situation?

Another one of Gregorian's "In a nutshell".
