A government of Monsters
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 10:23 PM by alfredo
A short and sweet comment by Scott Horton of Harper's Magazine:

A Government of Monsters
By Scott Horton

Paul Krugman:

Before I do some economics posts, I think I ought to say something about the torture memos — namely, that there is now no way to view the people who ruled us these past 8 years as anything but monsters. We had all these rationalizations of torture over the “ticking clock” and all that — then we learn, for example, that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times in one month.

Monsters, yes. More precisely, war criminals. And they hold fast to the propriety of using the rack and thumbscrews. But we’re supposed to forget about it and just move on. The answer is: truth out first. Accountability measures second. We still have a very long way to go on the first score.

1. Oh come on.
183 times in a month is barely 6 times per day. Less, if it's one of those long months.

If these disgusting sadists (and the media whores who cover for them) aren't held accountable, then our society has no basis for condemning any wrong however horrific.

3. Only with completetly open investigations and trials of everyone
involved, from GW Bush on down the line to the torturers themselves can we begin the precess of healing our history and our society.

6. Many of us knew that Bush was lying from Day One. Lying about the Iraq war,
lying about torture, lying about everything he touched, pretty much. I am so pissed that most of the electorate did not care or
pay attention enough to DEMAND that these assholes be investigated, impeached and thrown out of office. WTF?

People wonder why America is circling the drain now. Look in the mirror fools.
