Nora O'Donnell and Elizabeth Cheney are literally having a row over "torture" or "not torture"
Edited on Thu Apr-23-09 02:22 PM by eleny
I'm astounded how O'D is holding Cheney's feet to the fire. Cheney isn't backing down over the issue but neither is Nora O'D.

This is certainly one for You Tube. Elizabeth Cheney is such a sack of crap trying to push our country down the road of accepting torture because she says it produced results. It's obvious that she's articulate and clearly trying to protect her father.

17. This act alone is the most bold sign of GOP and Cheenee desperation yet.
She is sitting there parroting every bullsh*t talking point in the books.

She is in serious need of a smack down.

of wrong doing, the grunts need to be released from prison, have their records expunged and be reinstated in the military.

which crossing that line would be torture? What's that line exactly? Death? It's only torture if they die?

I was just trying to understand her reasoning of what lines there were and what constituted going over the line into torture. I'm guessing instead of 40 seconds of continous waterpouring they shorthened it to 20 seconds.

44. Liz Cheney's College thesis "The Evolution of Presidential War Powers 1988"
Rummaging through a bin of discarded books one day, I saw an unusual spine: "CHENEY The Evolution of Presidential War Powers 1988."

In 1988, while Dick Cheney was Wyoming's sole representative in the House of Representatives, his daughter's senior thesis was quietly published in Colorado Springs. The 125-page treatise argued that, constitutionally and historically, presidents have virtually unchecked powers in war. Thirteen years before her father became vice president, she had symbolically authored the first legal memorandum of the Bush administration, laying out the same arguments that would eventually justify Guantanamo and extraordinary rendition, wiretapping of American citizens, and, broadly, the unitary theory of the executive that shaped the Bush presidency.

It doesn't get results, of course-- but even if you accept the claim... so what? Murder "gets results". Rape "gets results". Theft "gets results". They're also illegal and immoral.

50. Liz has been spinning for a long while
Don't forget, she worked for the state department as Deputy Asst. Secy. of Near Eastern Affairs. After a break to have a baby, she went back to work for the State Department as Principal Deputy Asst. Secy. of Near Eastern Affairs.

&category=Kingdom">She said this in 2005:

Commenting on Guantanamo, the people there are very dangerous, said Cheney, and there is a process of identifying the innocent among them and releasing them. “The US does not torture; in fact what holds up the release from Guantanamo is getting a guarantee from their governments that they won’t be tortured,” said Cheney. The war on terror is a new form of war and new ways of protecting people are needed.

Guantanamo and prisons in Afghanistan are completely consistent with international obligations. Just because the Geneva Convention might not technically apply does not mean that America does not treat people with the spirit of the convention,” said Cheney...

<snip + bonus!>

Cheney defended the US success in the war on terrorism both in Afghanistan or Iraq. “What made Saddam dangerous was not only the stockpile of weapons he had but also he had the scientists who had the technology to make these weapons; we know that they were working with and training Al-Qaeda members. The danger was not necessarily of giving the weapons to the terrorists but that the technology would fall in the hands of terrorists,” she said.

She said that when she flew over Iraq she did not see chaos, but normal activity of regular people.
