If Waterboarding is 'Effective' and 'Not Torture', Would it be Acceptable for Iran
to waterboard the US journalist they are holding? Would the right defend the right of Iran to put her in stress positions and deprive her of sleep for weeks on end?

They would just be seeking valuable information, right?

Tip of the hat to a Stephanie Miller caller.

1. Have DUers been defending torture and/or waterboarding?
Have we come to that?

5. Thank god for that. Yesterday I was treated to an "Earth Day is irrelevant" post.
I feared that today was yet another step into Freeper la-la land.

4. I don't think DUers have been defending torture
But there has been no shortage of former officials from the Bush administration parading themselves across the talk shows to announce that waterboarding and stress positions and hanging by handcuffs don't really qualify as torture. Curiously, none of the hosts of the talk shows seem to be able to think of this rather elementary follow-up question: If, as you say Mr. Rove/Mr. Romney/Mr. Cheney, this isn't torture, you then wouldn't object to this same treatment being inflicted on your wife/daughter/lover/sex slave?

6. Gawd. Don't ask questions of Cheney if you don't care to hear the answer.
I wouldn't doubt that he's real kinky in private.

7. No. The "memos" make clear that it only applies to
terrorists (those that threaten the US, that is) and that it only applies in situations where the information extracted will prevent a terrorist attack.

(just clarifying their stated position)

8. What are they alleging that she knows?
I'm not really sure what they think she was doing, much less what they think she was planning.

10. Are they connecting her with Israel?
Do they think she knows something about Israel's bomb arcade or whatever plans they have? Or do they just call her a generic "spy"?
