the flyover/photo op thing....
Was this really necessary during these times? What a waste of fuel.

1. From what I heard, Obama was pissed
One of the news shows yesterday evening reported that the director of the White House Military Office was called into the Oval Office and got his but chewed by the President.

2. Heck, why not do it on the 4th of July? Or some other holiday?
Y'know, the sorts of days people are USED to having air shows and military flybys in the area.

3. They have to practice flying it anyway. They used to go down to Norfolk Navy Base...
and do touch and goes.

Flying AF1 is a unique experience in terms of the way it flies.

It's not like other 747s. You need to practice.

4. You don't practice flying
1000 feet over lower Manhattan.

This was brain-fried to such an extreme degree that it raises serious and legitimate questions as to who is making the decisions and whether those decision-makers are competent to be making such judgments.

5. The OP was about why it was flying at all considering fuel prices.
You have to practice.

1000 over lower Manhattan? No.

But you do have to fly it.

7. Not so much the price but who pays for it
In this day and age the last thing the government needs to be doing is wasting cash on bullshit.

These politicos and their entourage really don't get it. The boom days are over and it's time to start pinching pennies, even if you work on Wall Street or are spending somebody else's money, but I repeat myself.

8. You have to practice flying a plane with unique characteristics. In the air. You have
a team of pilots.

This isn't where you pinch pennies.

14. But don't both planes go along on Presidential trips?
Whichever one is Air Force One and the second as backup and to carry staff and press? With the amount of traveling President Obama has already done, wouldn't they have had enough practice for all the pilots?

This situation does not make any sense. It does make me wonder about Rove/Cheney appointees left behind.

11. re:photo op, ever heard of CGI? I have seen all kinds of stuff at the movies
Computer Generated Image..

This whole thing stinks to high heavens with me. I dont buy the excuse, nor the people leveling it. There was no reason to do this unless something was up.
