Do we have any assurances at all that Specter won't just switch back after winning in 2010?

He said himself he is only doing this because he can't get elected any other way. Once the motive for the switch is gone (getting elected), what keeps him in the Democratic Party?

1. That would be a dumb move if he did. The Dems will keep the senate in '10 and may even add a couple
of seats. So why would he want to move from a party with 60-62 Senators and choice committee assignments/chairmanship to a party with 38-40 Senators and a hard right tone which will carry a grudge against him?

3. Could be more than a couple.
There are five open seats and a couple vulnerable Republicans.

5. There's "never" any assurances
Anyone could switch parties at any time. I doubt Specter will though. He was pushed out just like Jeffords was.

6. I don't want to seem paranoid but...
however dumb this might sound, his move might be a result of a new republican strategy to infiltrate the democratic party with one of their own.

*sarcasm*....maybe

7. Did you notice, perhaps, how VERY bitter he is toward Republicans?
I doubt he'd give them water in the desert right now.

10. He doesn't have any assurances that he'll win the Democratic primary, either.
He'll have to vote the way Democratic primary voters want him to vote if he want's to get past that, now. I'm happy. :)

12. The Republicans have been SH*TTING on him for a long time now - Most people saw this coming
Michael Steele threatened him.

The talking heads attacked him

The leadership treated him like shit.

Why would he go back?
