Countdown to local Swine Flu freakout in 3...2...1..

Reported swine flu case may be first in Georgia
Director of Division of Public Health Elizabeth Ford confirmed through a conference call that a 30 -year -old woman from Kentucky is hospitalized and has the Swine Flu. This has been confirmed through the Center For Disease Control.

The woman (who’s name has not been disclosed) visited Cancun, Mexico in the past week. She headed back to the states on the 21st of April. She did go home to Kentucky before she visited Lagrange, Georgia. We are told that she was in Georgia for a “function”.

Up to 8 swine flu cases confirmed in SC
NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has officially confirmed ten cases of swine flu in South Carolina. However, the Dept. of Health and Environmental Control will only confirm eight of those cases.

DHEC says the CDC numbers have been fluctuating, and DHEC is only certain about those eight cases.

The news comes as another South Carolina high school has closed after students returned from a band trip to Walt Disney World in Florida with flu-like symptoms.

6. No, not yet. I think they're encouraging folks to start making plans
IF it comes to that.

4. Dottie is that you?! Function=60-200+ people infected. Fan-fucking-tastic.
Same number may have family and friends...thousands have now been infected.

5. This is how the flu is. And as long as the mortality stays really low,
it is of no more significance than seasonal flu.

Virologists are saying this flu lacks the ability to reproduce quickly in the lungs, which is apparently why it isn't pulling a 1918 on us.

I've been feeling ill for the past two days. Not horrible...but I feel something coming on. ~sigh~ I have to get that checked out.

9. Handle it like you would ANY flu. Stay home, lots of liquids, aspirin,
rest; see your doctor if you have breathing problems or anything weird or extreme.

And remember, if you catch it in this first phase, when healthcare systems aren't overwhelmed, you'll be immune when it goes killer and comes back again in the fall with a vengeance.

And I'm only half joking, lol.

10. that's good news!!
flu comes out of nowhere and hits you like a bus. when i had it this year, i went to bed feeling great, then woke up the next morning and wanted to die. i'm an influenza researcher and was TOO sick to even get out of bed to collect a sample from myself (my mentor jokingly accused me of a lack of devotion to the trade).

do get it checked out, though. hope you feel better.

12. Yeah..It's a slow going. I didn't get the flu this year.
I was around sick people this past week. Three friends of mine are sick. But I spent my day in Queens and was around people coughing...of what I'm not sure in the subway. So I woke up feeling off. I'm taking the advice given by the poster above.

7. No, no, no reason for a Swine Flu freakout. An H1N1, or NAFTA, Flu freakout, sure.
But not Swine Flu. ;-)
