I'll be honest. I don't much care for Colorado's newest senator, even though he's technically a Democrat.

He voted against the bankruptcy cramdown reform bill yesterday, and he seems to be selling us out frequently for that tasty big business campaign money.

He's being really coy about whether he supports EFCA, though my bet is that he'll take more tasty campaign money in exchange for a no vote.

He was appointed by Gov. Ritter rather than elected - he's never served in elected office before, and I'm not sure he's got what it takes to win an election. Granted, he can rake in the big bucks, but I'm not confident that he can truly earn his seat like Sen. Udall did.

But I get to see him in person today - he's doing a meet & greet at a local community college, so I may have the chance to give him a piece of my mind in person.

What should I ask him? How should I approach this?

1. Ask him why he voted against cramdown
and why he thinks banks need yet more protection from their own customers, despite getting gobs of government taxpayer money.

2. yeah--and he's consistently in the Blue Dog Caucus
why should we elect him for the first time if he's on the corporate side against his constituents?

3. Ask him how much he got paid to vote against cramdown.

If he doesn't answer ask him his reaction to what Durbin said yesterday. "The banks own the Senate"

http://progressillinois.com/2009/4/29/durbin-banks-own-the-place

So far this session, Sen. Dick Durbin has stood behind consumers like no other public official in Washington. He has served as the Senate Democrats' de facto point man on student aid reform, mortgage bankruptcy reform, usury reform, financial product safety, and consumer credit abuse. And around every corner, he's been met with resistance by banking industry lobbyists. In an interview with WJJG's Ray Hanania on Monday, the senior senator from Illinois stated outright that the banks "own" Capitol Hill. Listen (full audio here):

5. "...he seems to be selling us out frequently for that tasty big business campaign money."
Ask him if he wants to remain in the Senate beyond 2010, cuz as it's looking right now, he doesn't have my vote.

6. ask him to support Obama
because he wouldn't be where he is today if not for the President. Plus his constituents support the president.

7. Full Disclosure: I don't like him.
So, my question would be to ask what he promised Ritter in order to get the appointment. I have never understood Ritter's thought process and I think this is going to be a tough seat to hold. I'm kind of hoping Romanoff will challenge him.

9. I don't like him either.
Of course, since this is a public event, I've got to remain civil, and thus I'm going to stick to issues-based questions designed to make him squirm rather than openly questioning his integrity. I won't openly call him a corporate whore, I'll just lead others in the room to figure that out for themselves.
