Whether you believe this is hooey or not, Influenza and Reye's syndrome
I got reminded of this little factoid, if you think you have the flu (ANY FLU)... do not take aspirin for this. In kids we have seen Reye's syndrome, which leads to liver damage and other stuff

Now to my knowledge we have never seen this in adults, but we have in kids... to be safe, stick to the tylenol

daughter died of Reyes syndrome some 25 or more years ago.

It's something you never, ever get over.

They didn't realize she had the flu and gave her aspirin for her aches and fever.

And thanks especially for your great info on the new flu.

The wave thing is the only thing that makes sense to me, of the drastic measures being taken for what appears to be a rather mild disease - so far.

I really appreciate your good information.

7. My cousin had it in the early 50s before they knew what it was
and several brain surgeries later, she's bright and with it but in a body that hasn't worked the way she wanted it to since she was a little kid.

She was a piano prodigy. Reye's ended that.

Do NOT give kids aspirin, please.

Aspirin remains an effective anti pyretic and analgesic for adults and is absolutely essential for those with a history of cardiovascular disease.

If there had ever been a single case in an adult, you can bet it would have been reported before now. Trust me, they have looked for that particular disease process and never found it.

Your advice is in error.

11. It's the only one I can take.
Tylenol, Motrin and the like make me demonstrably sicker.

My doctors have told me to stick with what works; and for me, it's aspirin. I'm 40-ish and do so. I took it as a kid and am fine; the other NSAIDS do nothing for me, sorry to say; they make me feel worse.

That said, I take Tylenol, that's what works for me... NSAIDs are not a good idea, if I can avoid them, due to the crap I need to take

17. I'd be (I am) cautious with Tylenol (acetaminophen). The 4000mg 'limit' is sure to be lowered ...

... to (probably) 2000mg. Liver damage is something to avoid. With the 650mg 'arthritis' formulations available OTC, overdosing is a danger. Indeed, guidance is getting more common that no more than 1000mg should be taken at any single time. Further, alcohol should be avoided, particularly anything more than 2 drinks per day.

while readying the Universal from Mexico, I saw the reminder from the National University

And I went... shit right, this is second nature to me, but not to others

14. also with other viral infections. My son had measles and wanted to take asprin
and luckily I had read about Reyes Syndrome just a few weeks prior and he was so stubborn and I of course was too stupid for words, that I had to flush all the asprin down the toilet just to keep him from taking some. I made it a point at his next drs appointment to ask the doc in front of him about being an adolescent boy, being sick with fever etc, taking asprin, and Reyes Syndrome and the doc of course said under no circumstance should a young person take asprin when they are ill and develop a fever. I was exonerated, but still out a bottle of asperin!
