My letter to our new Senator Bennett
Dear Senator Bennett;

It was with great shock that I read of your vote against the Durbin Amendment, which would have allowed bankruptcy judges to “cram down” mortgages for homeowners in danger of losing their homes.

Sir, I would encourage you to remember that you are now one of the state’s Democratic senators, not a Republican. As a current county Central Committee member, former county party officer, and former State Central Committee member, I can tell you that I and others like me have not, do not, and will not work for candidates who do not uphold at least the most minimal of Democratic values. Your vote is more reminiscent of a Hoover Republican than an FDR Democrat.

I think Senator Durbin was correct when he said that the bankers own the Senate. As the people who are largely responsible for our current economic crisis, the bankers should be held in disdain, not given access and bowed to in the U.S. Senate. Have you no feeling for the thousands of Coloradans, and multiple thousands of Americans who are in danger of losing their homes? Are the contributions from the banking industry sufficient to quiet you r conscience?

I know you are intent on running to retain you r seat in 2010, and that you have raised considerable money in this effort, likely some from the bankers. Please remember that you need people to work on your behalf. People like myself and the other loyal Democrats in mine and the other 63 counties. Your recent vote did nothing to endear yourself to us.

I look forward to your upcoming visit to Fremont County. Do not expect a warm reception. We will all be watching your future votes with interest

1. That is an excellent letter.
Let me know what kind of response you get, if any. Any 'new' Senator would be foolish to ignore it.

2. Yours is better than mine, but I sent it anyway - snail mail & fax.
I said pretty much the same thing - if you want to run with a D behind your name then act like a D!

I sent letters to Udall, Bennet & Polis last week about the torture memos. Got a canned response from Udall that doesn't even mention the toruture issue & no response from Bennet & Polis - not even a canned one. :eyes:

I remember the first letter I sent to Salazar - he sent a canned response that didn't address the issue I inquired about, along with a postage paid envelope for a contribution. I was pissed! I used his envelope to write back & tell him I resented that he didn't address my issue but thought it was still appropriate to ask me for money. :grr:

I'm losing hope that we'll ever be listened to. Did you read the recent thread on Ben Nelson's (D-Nebraska) comments about a public health plan? He said he will oppose legislation that would give people the option of a public health insurance plan because the public plan would be too attractive and would hurt the private insurance plans. :wtf:

3. I saw Sen. Bennet in a town hall yesterday.
His explanation for voting against cramdown was because the value of houses that would have been eligible for cramdown was $700,000, and he thought that was too high.

OK, fair enough. Then I remembered that cramdown is perfectly legal today for millionaires who own several houses and use bankruptcy because they don't want to get rid of one or two of them.

BZZZZZZZT!!! TRY AGAIN!!!

Bennet sorely needs to be primaried. I emailed Andrew Romanoff and asked him to run against Bennet - we need to either replace Bennet or force him to earn his seat.

5. These Town Hall Meetings
he's doing are fine, but doing little to get him known. He was at a Union Hall last week and hardly anybody came.

Senator WHO?

David Sirota has invited him to come on and discuss things on AM760 - so far....birds chirping.

All I've ever heard of the guy is on YouTube and there are very few clips.

I like Andrew Romanoff, but methinks he'd join the "conservadems" too.

7. Bennet is an anti-worker management type.
Same as Ritter.

4. I Wrote Similar Letter Yesterday
I'm not at all happy with Bennet or Ritter for appointing him. Both seem to be digging themselves into big holes.

8. I called his local office this morning to express my outrage (salazar's old number, so I know it by
heart)

I am so damned sick of DINO's--my messages to salazar used to end with "if we had wanted a conservative catholic republican, we could have voted for pete coors. the only advantage I see to you is that "d" after your name"

9. Print it out and send it snail mail.

Or better yet, write in in long hand.

They don't take e-mails nearly as seriously as actual paper letters, and hand written ones are the ones that get the most attention. Somehow the idea of actually using a pen means that you care much more about your subject.

Don't ask me why, but the unions have found this to be largely true of any congresscritters, but especially Senators.

EDIT: That being said... I have yet to see a response from Bennet on my hand written letter about EFCA. Udall has sent me a response already (with his BS belief that it eliminates a non existent "secret ballot").:eyes:

I think he's a corporate whore. Never thought I'd see the day when I miss Salazar.
