Never saw the top rankings there before. Seattle has 13 of the top 138 - woot!

1. Here's the real deal on my 'hood:
Grocery stores: .6 and .9 miles

Restaurants: Thai food and a sandwich place within a few blocks

Coffee: .35 miles

Bars: .42 miles

Movies: .77 miles

Park: .88 (which is not only as the crow flies, but there's a better, closer park much nearer than that)

Library: .85

Bookstore: 1.69 (as the crow flies, it's really closer to 5 miles on the freeway)

Hardware store: .68

Clothes: At the mall near the bookstore

In summary, even though I got a score of 85, it's not very reflective of actual conditions on the ground.

17. 85 would be good
but they're counting the shell station as a grocery store, the Christian science library as a library, the dance clothing store as a clothing store, the Christian bookstore as a bookstore, and so forth.

The real number should be much, much lower.

Nearest grocery store 8.65 miles.

I used to walk my dog there and back every sunday morning to buy the sunday paper.

5. We moved from a terrible walk score area and my wife demanded we
live in a high walkscore area, yes, here in Seattle. There's pluses and minuses. And not everything walkable is something you'd _want_ to walk to.

Being near a big mass-transit stop is better, in my opinion.

Where I live in Mexico, Zacatecas, most people walk everywhere, pretty much. Even old people go up and down hills on their own two feet. It's very contained as a city.

Um, that's a sort of scary number.

We can walk to the supermarket, to all manner of shopping, to vegetable and fish purveyors, to the opera, museums, symphony, and to trains that will take us anywhere. We take our car out once or twice a week.

We are not in walking distance to anything, and I mean anything. It's over 4 miles to the nearest stores, other than that its just suburban hell. Nice neighborhood though really good people around us.

people assume
1. your car broke down
2. your lisence was suspended for drunk driving
3. you are a tourist from chicago
4. you are one of the guys from the halfway house who comes into town to go thru the trash cans for bottles
I took along, invigorating walk from my house out in the country to town once and I was approached 3 times from kindly people who wanted to give me a ride because they thought something was wrong.
No walking paths. You are doomed if you venture too close to the road.

15. My location gets a 92.
But some of the places they list aren't very good. All in all, it's a pretty convenient place to live. There's a great bike path just 5 blocks away that ends up at a nice lake 10 miles west of town. :)
