LONDON: The wife of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is seeking divorce, saying she could not be with a man who "consorted with minors".

Veronica Lario, who married Berlusconi in 1990, confirmed that she will file for divorce, the BBC reported on Sunday. Lario reportedly said she could not be with a man who "consorted with minors" after her husband attended a female friend's 18th birthday party. Berlusconi had courted Lario in 1980 after watching her perform topless in a play.

The 72-year-old billionaire's wife had clashed publicly with her husband over his Freedom Party's plan to choose certain female candidates for the European elections.Lario is Berlusconi's second wife and a former actress. The couple, who have been married for 19 years, have three children, all in their 20s. According to top Italian daily La Repubblica, Lario's decision came after reading about the 18th birthday party in Naples.

They sound like the kind of couple that whip champagne glasses and priceless heirlooms at each other when they fight. He probably selected her as his wife for the same reasons he's now salivating over young ingenues so what did she expect. She should just quietly get rid of him and move to the Côte d'Azur with her big bank account and a hot Italian model/waiter, and be done with it.
