I See No Choice But To Support Joe Sestak
Edited on Sun May-03-09 06:46 PM by WeDidIt
It's become obvious that Arlen Spoecter is doing nothing for the Democratic Party.

There's no choice for loyal Democrats to do anything but support Joe Sestak in the Pennsylvania primary.

5. Sestak hasn't fully committed, but he'll run if Arlen keeps fucking us. I'm already in $100.
Donate a few $ on his ActBlue page ... he'll get the message

3. because he is an excellent candidate who will win the general?
Or because it is better to have a pure candidate than a moderate senator?

4. I would say a good reason is that he would beat Tom Ridge who will be the R candidate.

9. No, because it is Pennsylvania and there is no reason
they cant have a senator at least as progressive as Casey. A Carl Levin type candidate could beat Toomey in Pennsylvania.
I understand states like Nebraska serving up weak ass Democrats, but Pennsylvania is no Nebraska.

6. I still think Specter will turn out to have been useful . . .
He's clearly kicked over the antihill of the 'Lican caucus, which is a beneficial result in its own right. And even though adults like McCain are trying to forge a coalition of Republicans that aren't batshit insane, it's far from sure they'll be able to do so, what with the rest of the party busy baying at the moon. So, Specter = chaos in the caucus.

True, Specter is odious, and if he's odious enough, the Dems can renege on their promise in 2010 -- or at lest moderate their support -- so Specter can get knocked off in the primary by a real Dem. Even if he wins in 2010, he'll be entrapped and less able to avoid party discipline than he is now with his recently earned political capital largely unspent.

8. Let's watch and see what Spincter does
If he keeps spewing his "I won't be a loyal Democrat" shit and votes like a pub on things like court nominees and health care, what fucking good is he.

It might get him invited on all the crappy TV shows so the pundits can use him to ridicule Dem programs. But won't help him win a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY.

If on the other hand he starts acting like a real Democrat and does the right thing, he's as good as anybody else would be in that seat.

I doesn't look promising now and I'm leaning toward supporting Sestak. But the primary is a year off. A lot can happen, good or bad.

21. Too bad, I didn't hear that; I was going by what Casey said on the day Specter
announced his switch. Which was that he was not committing to anything at that time.

14. Another Pennsylvania Democrat for Sestak here!
Beyond all the reasons stated here, what really gets my goat about Spectula is his giving up on crushing Bill Beli-cheat for spying on other teams. "Half time adjustments," my ass!

Mainly due to his relentless persecution of the Pakuni.

17. Good Luck guys
I'm not saying I entirely disagree with some of the back lash against what Specter said today.

All I know is this Specter at the present moment has the backing of:

President Barack Obama
Vice President Joe Biden
Governor Ed Rendell
Senator Bob Casey
DSCC

If Joe Sestak can launch a grass roots campaign to beat Specter in a primary than he's a far better candidate than even our President was.

I'm a veteran of the 2008 Presidential Primary on the Barack Obama side. I know how hard it is to combat the PA democratic machine. I have no desire to drain my energy in a primary battle in 2010 when I need it for a General Election battle for the Senate, Governor's mansion, and Congressional race in my district.

20. Why did he even switch? He's worse than a blue dog.
Right from the start he said he wouldn't support EFCA. Now he's against single-payer before he's even see any legislation.

And he's shown no sign of changing his views on anything.

Why was this such a good deal to the Senate Dems?
