Which Democrats are protecting wealthy citizens' and corporations' foreign tax havens?
Edited on Tue May-05-09 02:52 AM by Dover
So we're clear (as Obama would say), it's not just the GOP whose idea of 'representative government' is allegiance to corporate America and those with the deep pockets who pay to play. Sorry to say that even though we have a Democratic majority, offshore tax havens and foreign business tax incentives will likely be permitted to continue as the wealthiest and their lobbying machines fill up the feed troughs in Washington. Sooooweee!

It is UNBELIEVABLE during these difficult times when everyone is forced to sacrifice and pinch pennies, that the wealthiest Americans and corporations are permitted to maintain foreign tax havens (legally assisted by the very banks WE are bailing out!) not to mention tax incentives that result in sending our jobs overseas. The result is that the bulk of the tax burden is shifted onto the shoulders of the working stiff or even the currently unemployed. If the government did its job and collected these unpaid taxes and reversed tax laws to support domestic businesses/jobs, our economy might have a chance of not only gaining ground, but FINALLY resolving a long standing injustice.

If these tax havens are permitted, why should any regular citizen EVER again feel that they alone should be responsible for keeping our government (the government that no longer represents their interests) afloat with their hard earned money? If they don't correct this then perhaps a revolution will.

Obama 'promised' to fix this gaping hole and injustice, but will he and the Dems deliver?
Are the citizens supposed to compete with the wealthy, filling the trough before we get representation?

1. Congress leery about Obama's plan on tax loopholes

WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama promised sternly on Monday to crack down on companies "that ship jobs overseas" and duck U.S. taxes with offshore havens. It won't be easy. Democrats have been fighting—and losing—this battle since John F. Kennedy made a similar proposal in 1961. Obama's proposal to close tax loopholes was a reliable applause line during the presidential campaign, but it got a lukewarm response Monday from Capitol Hill.
Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said the plan needed further study, even though similar ideas have been around for years...cont'd
