Does any state charge assault victims for the costs of gathering evidence

relating to the crime committed against their bodies?

If not, what possible justification could there be for charging a rape victim for the costs of gathering the information for the rape kit?

Rape is abominable because it is a brutal attack on a person (no shit, right), but it is a crime because it's a violation of society's laws.

Therefore, it is entirely appropriate that society should foot the bill for the investigation.

If the victim pursues civil charges in excess of the criminal trial, then that's another matter, but the prosecution of the crime is not the financial responsibility of the victim.

2. Some towns are charging for emergency services.

Several towns in Minnesota charge you if you're in an accident or have a house fire. Several hundred dollars.

I found out last week that one that I drive through occasionally, East Bethel, does this. So no more driving through East Bethel for me!
