Something My Company's President Said Today..Bastard...

Even thought today is Sunday and Mothers day a union represented group within my company was sitting down with management trying to hammer out a fair contract after four years of unfair, unreasonable no desire to negotiate in good faith by the company's management group in which the company's president is the chairman of.

Well after today's eight hour session the Prez stopped by my department to say hi to some of his buddys....an employee said to him "well SIR since you are here today did you have yesterday off"...his reply "oh no I was hear doing something that I just love to do trying to reach an agreement with a bunch of cry babies who think they are entitled to more money in these bad times"......My mouth and my spirit just dropped to the floor. I thought about what he said and the history behind it and though the following...

1....He should have a desire to reach a beneficial agreement..it should be an honor to be part of seeing employees be compensated what they are worth and to see their lives changed which returns back to the company in higher moral and productivity,

2.. In the four years they have lost 600+ employees of that group(airline pilots) which has cost them about $35K each for retraining new hires which amounts to around $21 million dollars which is three time the cost of the original proposal put forth by the union. FROIGIN INSANE I say......the four years of negotiating has cost both parties a half an million...

I had to hold my tongue from wanting to call him a ferkin selfish asswipe and telling him he isn't worth half of what his salary and bonus package cost everyone there.

Sheesh

2. His words are tactics....they hope to wear you all down...
I remember one Administrator that called out loud and clear
that it was hard to negotiate with our group because we must
not be going home to bathe in between negotiation sessions.

This is what they are taught to do...or it might come naturally.

Good luck...hold strong..

3. It's just astonishing isn't it?
My brother worked for a major bank recently merged with another major bank, in a branch. They were told they are taking a 30% pay cut to keep the job, are losing all paid vacation and sick days and were also given additional work that requires them to come in early, stay late, come in on weekends etc to get the workload done. This is bank wide for both banks, not just his branch. In the the year since they did this they have lost nearly 50% of it's branch workforce and have had to spend an absolute fortune on finding, hiring and training new people. Paying the people they had and treating them like assets instead of liabilities would have saved them close to a Billion in the last year.

The new hires are treated just as bad - they quickly realize this is crap and leave. Meaning the process starts all over again.

BTW, brother now works for a credit union. He makes more than he made at the 30% off rate but not as much as he made previously. But he's incredibly happy where he is.
