I figured I would rather try to have rational discussions with people and let the other members decide who was acting like an adult and who was merely trolling.

If someone is interested in one opinion only (on any subject), why ask someone what their opinion is and then get upset and tell them how (in terms of tone AND content) they SHOULD have answered?

(I don't think Perez baited her. That's your word, not mine. Judging from what I've seen of him, he's not that clever. I think it's more likely that he's not very bright, so he fails to see the absurdity of asking someone to give their opinion when it's clear that he wasn't interested in an opinion, but rather a recitation of a particular position.)

Personally I don't think either Perez or Prejean are rocket scientists. I am just marvelling at how Prejean now said she seized the moment to witness for Jesus, because she knew Satan was tempting her. When you watch the tape you can see that she is just babbling semi-coherently ("opposite marriage") and if thinking on your feet was the reason for having this "question for the crown", she failed! :)

But again, I'm wondering: If someone is interested in only one answer to a question -- a question of opinion, to boot -- why ask it at all?

Perez didn't simply reply by saying that he disagreed with her. His video response that night was a "Here's how she SHOULD have answered" response, and it was the way he wanted it answered, not in terms of coherence or polished language or anything like that, but rather a particular position on an issue.

Truthfully you should judge the potential "queen" on backing up her position, no matter what it is. From that standpoint, she would not have won no matter what her answer, so his response was out of line. A judge of any subjective competition do best to keep their mouths shut post-competition anyhow.

It wasn't presented well, and as you said, that's enough to prevent her from winning. So we agree on that.

Instead, he's responsible for basically creating her celebrity because he had to pull outrage over the specific answer she gave which isn't what the contestants are supposed to be judged on to begin with.

However, I'm having trouble generating much sympathy for socially conservative fundies. I have some trouble generating sympathy for beauty queens in general. She has, apparently, violated her contract. Often what happens when you go around shoveling shit on people. I know very few social conservatives who practice what they preach.

I've read stories on the internets from people that say they work for the Miss California pageant and they say she's a total diva and treats everyone like shit.

I hate the hang-ups Americans have over nudity and sexuality, and to have a photograph this bland and innocuous be the basis for any sort of disqualification is just ridiculous. There are hundreds of beaches right here in the US where it's perfectly acceptable to wear that little or less.

Who made her body? Your answer is either God or Nature, and either way, why would you suppress something that God created or is the most natural state of being?

Of course, her boobs may be a medical miracle, but that's irrelevant.

The local pageant does not have the authority to fire Prejean as Miss California. Only Donald Trump and the Miss Universe organization can do that. Pageant officials said they would be willing to work with Carrie Prejean, but every time they reach out to her, they are confronted by an army of her handlers and haven’t been able to talk with her.
