Keep It Made in America (Danny Glover & Rev. Jesse Jackson are joining workers in an 11-state tour)

May 12, 2009

This week, actor Danny Glover and the Rev. Jesse Jackson are
joining workers, lawmakers and community allies in an 11-state,
30-plus city "Keep It Made in America" bus tour sponsored in
part by the United Steelworkers (USW). As USW President Leo
Gerard says: "This jobs crisis goes deeper than auto companies
and assembly workers in Detroit. Reducing U.S. auto
manufacturing drives down overall employment, from the people
who make auto catalogs and shipping boxes to workers making
glass for windshields, rubber for tires and other materials."

1. For the first time in about ten years, I had to buy slacks this
winter. I buy wool pants in classic styles, and I get the good stuff, so it will last.

The last time I replenished the staples in my wardrobe, most things were still made here. This winter, I could not find what I needed. I froze in the thin, cheaply made stuff I was forced to purchase. I need warm clothing in this climate, and I need to be able to try on the clothing before I buy it. Yes, I can find things online that are union made. But I want a convenient store that is not too far away. I will pay more if I have to! I want union workers who get paid and who care about their work to manufacture my clothing.

We had some remodeling work done over the winter. We needed an electrician to put in some new lighting and outlets in an upstairs bathroom. We will need similar work done to a porch room this summer. You better believe that we will use union electricians. It may cost a little more, but we need to keep helping each other out in this way, and helping our union brothers and sisters, too.

2. No store to try it on but....

Excellent return policy. They will send you a postage pre-paid envelope or box for returns.
