Kucinich - "What is lacking is political leadership..."
Edited on Tue May-12-09 09:51 PM by slipslidingaway
Kucinich makes an important distinction about where to gather support...you take the issue directly to the people and then you have the people pressure Congress.

Instead what we have now is an attempt by Congress to block any discussion of a single-payer system.

Educate the people about the system and let them decide.

"...How then could you see yourself being President and simultaneously be subordinate to these powerful interests...I would be very concerned about electing anyone who didn't believe that the President of the US could not rally the American people in the cause of their own health...that is what I intend to do, to rally the American people...I'm talking about taking America in a direction where we rally the American people to create this not for profit health care system, I think the public support is there for it."

2. It is an important distinction IMO, right now we have people in our
own Party telling us it will never happen, without doing anything to gain support from the people.

If enough people understood what was being proposed and pressured their members of Congress we might at least be able to have a discussion that included SP.

BTW this is from the campaign, still relevant IMO.

3. You should at least start with the best plan
and everyone would understand that it would get watered-down somewhat in the process.

But when you start with mediocre, where can you really go from there?

same corporations so they will start from a position of compromise, they really do not want to cut out the for profit companies.

Kucinich is right when he says our Party is not being honest with voters on this issue.

5. Old post from a DU'er...
it was a different issue, but the strategy remains the same.

"...Here's the major point: You need to separate the legislative process from the "platform" process. I'm not naive enough to argue that Congressional Dems could pass meaningful campaign finance reform to take big money out of the electoral process. It's probably not even worth trying to bring such a bill to the floor at this time. It would have zero chance of passing and zero chance of surviving a veto.

HOWEVER, and this is where the party is totally failing us, why isn't this one of the major topics being talked about by every Democrat? Passing legislation doesn't start in the Congress; it starts with the American people. If the Party really wanted to make this critically needed reform, they would be raising the issue every chance they got. They aren't. Have you heard any Democrat, save one or two perhaps, even discussing the issue? I haven't..."

Thanks for the recs.

9. The bottom line
is that the source of payment for health care is not the primary obstacle to providing adequate health care to everyone.

The primary obstacle consists of all the people who have a hand in the cookie jar, so that $100 of health care spending buys maybe $15 of actual health care, the rest being stolen by one scam or another.
