Looking back (as I said at the time) those stimulus checks to consumers look pretty damn stupid now don't they? As if sending everyone a check so (in theory) they would buy MORE cheap wal-mart crap would save us from this recession/depression.

The fact is wages have not kept up with the cost of living. We have gotten rid of all our manufacturing jobs. Instead of saving our auto manufacturers we have cut checks for TRILLIONS to the banks so they could (in theory) allow people to continue spending on credit.

We have basically fallen in to a position where people have to substitute lower wages with credit.

I wonder when Washington will figure out that "unfreezing credit" and sending out checks and gimmicks like $12 more a pay check isn't going to solve the underlying problems that are causing us to sink. We need JOBS that pay wages high enough to support the cost of living. If that doesn't start to happen - and soon - we are going to be a poor country for decades.

1. Did the Bush (mis)administration do anything that wasn't stupid?
Really, if it wasn't stupid, illegal, greedy, or irresponsible, what did they do?

2. They should have done what the Chinese did and give
coupons to replace big ticket items that save on energy or accomplish other goals.

Our stimulus package sucked.

3. They do seem a bit shocked
that people who don't think their jobs are secure won't take on big debts for things like new cars and bigger houses, don't they?

Eventually it's going to dawn on everybody, including the banks, that no amount of government handouts are going to keep them in business if their customers are gone.

The tax credit for offshoring American jobs is still there, by the way. Odd that these old men can't connect those dots.

5. right on!
Government economists continue to claim that the cause of inflation is due to the higher wages paid to workers, which is of course complete bullshit. American workers continue to lose buying power because our wages have not kept up with the of costs of goods and services. It seems to me that the increased costs of goods and services has been driven higher, just as wages have been driven lower, by the desire of the capitalists for more and more profit. Nothing is ever enough for these pigs -- this animal farm cannot survive.
