Scouts Train to Fight Terrorists, and More

IMPERIAL, Calif. — Ten minutes into arrant mayhem in this town near the Mexican border, and the gunman, a disgruntled Iraq war veteran, has already taken out two people, one slumped in his desk, the other covered in blood on the floor.

The responding officers — eight teenage boys and girls, the youngest 14 — face tripwire, a thin cloud of poisonous gas and loud shots — BAM! BAM! — fired from behind a flimsy wall. They move quickly, pellet guns drawn and masks affixed.

“United States Border Patrol! Put your hands up!” screams one in a voice cracking with adolescent determination as the suspect is subdued.

It is all quite a step up from the square knot.

The Explorers program, a coeducational affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America that began 60 years ago, is training thousands of young people in skills used to confront terrorism, illegal immigration and escalating border violence — an intense ratcheting up of one of the group’s longtime missions to prepare youths for more traditional jobs as police officers and firefighters.

yet another reason i no longer donate to them. ever since they denied gay scouts and non religious scouts into their organization, i havent bought anything from the local chapters. no popcorn, nada.
the girl scouts, on the other hand , i buy those cookies.
i am not surprised. the boy scouts took a huge turn for the worse a while back , when macho chest thumping neanderthals took it over.

I commented in explaining the role of the explorer scout groups. They do all kinds of things and have focused areas. They teach the kids about future careers in things like law enforcement, park rangers etc... and actually allow them to do the tasks. Additional training for law enforcement is never a bad thing. Would you rather have a rookie officer with a few weeks of training or a rookie officer who has spent years training?

Explorer scouts focus on specific areas. I almost joined a (civil air patrol) explorer post to fly and do search and rescue. They have explorer posts that deal with boats, scuba diving, law enforcement, rangers, and all kinds of things. It allows the kids who are interested in one area to pursue that one area and receive special training in it. If these kids want to go into law enforcement this explorer post is perfect for them and should be encourage for the additional training and learning these kids will receive to make them better officers.

Or is it all just SWAT team simulations and gun porn?

The 'explorer' program is pretty good. I'm a little surprised by the guns- Our Explorers were very heavily supervised.

I even went to become a "Brotherhood" of the "Order of the Arrow" and some asshole Nazi wannabe was trying to make us march and play war games - and I FUCKING TOLD HIM OFF AND TOLD HIM TO GO FUCK HIMSELF in front of the WHOLE gathering - and from then on REFUSE TO "PLAY" ALONG...!!!

Oh, and they HAD to give me my "order" because I was RIGHT!!!
