US soldier takes on Talibans – in pink underpants

Zachary Boyd fights the Taliban in 'I love NY' boxer shorts after forgetting his combat trousers




Scrambling to raise himself from sleep during a Taliban attack high in the Afghan hills, Zachary Boyd, a soldier with the First Brigade, grabbed his automatic gun, helmet and bulletproof jacket.

But in his haste he left behind his combat trousers – showing to the world that below the belt he was fighting in nothing more protective than "I love NY" boxer shorts.

Boyd, pictured looking through the sights of his automatic rifle, also has a red T-shirt peeking out from under his flakjacket, and sandals. Alongside him is a colleague in trainers who at least had the apparent foresight to sleep in an appropriately coloured T-shirt.

Am I the only one who doesn't think this is a good idea?

because I doubt they started out pink.

Now all his acquaintances will know the answer to the most burning of questions, "Boxers or briefs?"

"Boyd was home on leave in March, but his return flight was delayed in New York. A friend's sister took him on a whirlwind tour and that's when he bought the pink shorts, his mother said."

His father Tommy said he couldn’t stop laughing at seeing Boyd in pink boxers.

“I ran to the computer and looked at The New York Times right quick,” Mr Boyd told Texas radio station WBAP. “Lo and behold, I saw his pink underwear and just laughed for about the next five minutes.”

“I knew he was a boxer guy, I knew that for sure. I did not know they were pink, and I didn't know they said, ‘I love New York’.”
