Fail!
Is it enough to SLOW the disintegration of all we hold dear? Is it enough to simply give less ground against the constant onslaught of those who would consume and return nothing but bare, brittle bones?

Some say we want too much, that our anger is that of spoiled children crying for what we cannot have. But the fact is that we see all too clearly what must be done to save us, not merely delay the Fall.

I know too that there are those among us who do hate America, though perhaps this as uch for its failed promises as for any other reason. Those who would like to see it fall, who desire the chaos and destruction with as much zeal as the conservatives await Armageddon. In truth, these are not my allies, any more than are those who think merely slowing the decay is enough.

Thirty-three of our Senators voted to reign in the banks and credit card companies. Just over haf. A handful decided, apparently, that it wasn't important enough to be there for. Nice. The others, including mine own? Fail.

And do you know how much I like to hear the excuse "well, many come from conservative districts?" Do you really mean to tell me that they're worried that Joe Citizen's going to get annoyed that they didn't protect the banking industry? Laughable. It's not the people they don't want to offend, it's the money.

"We need publicly funded elections," some say. Well, yeah, we do. But how are we ever going to get them if we have to rely on the likes of the twenty or so who screwed the pooch on this vote? No, they'll just wait for the next campaign finance scandal and institute MORE useless rules so they can pretend to give a shit.

Honestly, I find the torture pics thing annoying, but not earthshaking. We already know they were torturing people--they've admitted it. And they're daring us to do anything about it. A dare it doesn't look like this administration or Congress as a whole plan to do anything about. Again, we're left with something similar to the aftermath of Iran/Contra, where pretending it'll all go away gives the bastards the chance to resuscitate themselves and emerge back into the public eye as shambling zombies of even greater destructive power.

We've watched these fuckers do it out of the ashes of Watergate, through the Iran/Contra scandal, and to this most recent fiasco. Same players in the end. And I can guarantee if we don't see something done to bring them to justice, we'll be looking back into their beady little eyes in fifteen years or so when, again, everyone has forgotten what it was they've done. History repeats itself yet again.

The Republicans could spend 50 million dollars--or more--chasing down Clinton's mistress, pour hundreds if not thousands of labor hours into the project, but we can't do anything about anything REALLY illegal? Pretty fucking pathetic, folks. Of course, I'm of the school that says turning the other cheek is just making an offer for them to kick in THAT side of your face too.

So, yeah, bitch all you want about our attitude. Tell us to "be patient." What will you be saying a year from now when we're STILL trying to plow the ground in neutral and wondering why we're not seeing new greenery popping up behind us? Will it STILL not be enough time, or will there be another round of excuses?

That's not to say that slowing the descent isn't a good thing. It's better than the alternative. But, then again, drinking rotgut whiskey to dull the pain is preferable to shooting pure heroin into your veins. Doesn't mean it's a good idea.

1. I agree. It would be really nice if our reps would do the right thing
instead of doing what the lobbyists bribe them to do.

It would be really nice if our reps would do what low and middle-income people need in order to survive, not what large corporations need in order to cheat a few more million dollar in revenue out of those low and middle-income people.

It would be really nice if our reps worked for us, instead of for the lobbyists.

It would be nice if laws really applied to our reps and to our government at all levels too. For example, if they accepted lobbyist money and then write legislation to directly benefit that lobbyist's client it should be investigated and prosecuted as a bribe. If they accept lobbyist money and let the lobbyist write the legislation that should be accepted as proof of a bribe.

It would be really nice if we could get some of the blatant corruption out of Washington. x(
