Poll: More Say It’s Likely That CIA Misled Pelosi About Torture

An interesting new Rasmussen poll finds that a plurality thinks it’s likely that Nancy Pelosi was right to say that the CIA misled her about the use of torture:

How likely is it that the CIA misled Pelosi about the use of waterboarding when interrogating prisoners?

20% Very likely
23% Somewhat likely
19% Not very likely
22% Not at all likely
16% Not sure

So 43% say it’s “very likely” or “somewhat likely” that the CIA misled Pelosi about torture, versus 41% who say it’s “not very likely” or “not at all likely.”

Strikingly, this is almost completely at odds with the way the traditional news orgs have covered this dispute. Most have focused almost entirely on the doubts the competing claims of Pelosi and the CIA cast on Pelosi’s credibility, with very few giving anywhere near the same level of scrutiny to the ways in which the CIA’s credibility is now in question.

If this poll is to be believed, however, more people are focused on the latter, despite what the news orgs are telling them to think.

2. Yeah, and imagine what the numbers would look like without the media storm that targeted Pelosi.
Slowly, but surely, people are learning how to see through the media haze.

3. Either way, this is America, so it doesn't matter. Nothing will come of this entire incident, period
...accept for further cementing negative, outraged views the world over for the American empire.

6. I found the fact that Rasmussen conducted this poll and came
up with these results interesting. They usually skew the questions to favor the r/w, but they didn't get the answers they wanted or expected.

So 'neener neener' to them!

5. Count me among the "Very Likely". I'm with Nancy, we need investigations.
The Democrats should call the Repukes bluff, and investigate no matter where it leads. You know what they say about sunshine.

7. 43/41? Seems to me, that's pretty much a tie.
What's the margin of error?

9. Given the coverage and the obvious spin that may be a tie but that is a WIN for Pelosi

10. If you don't think the CIA can and will lie to Congress...
Then you don't know fuck all about the history of the CIA.

11. This looks like the diversion is working. The difference is within the margin for error. nt

12. I tend to believe Pelosi
although I can't stand her, only because if she's not right on this, her career is over.
And also because the Repukes are going after her so much in an attempt to cover their own ass.

13. Amazing given all of the brutal media coverage she's getting
Given party identification right now that would mean independents slightly lean towards not believing her.

I haven't really seen one news story backpedaling the accusations against Pelosi, or the talks about how she's done despite this poll (though I have seen a story or two about this poll). In fact some news organizations are talking about 'is congress ready for a coup to unseat Pelosi'.

I think part of the reason for the firestorm on Pelosi is the GOP hitting her hard feeling that they have a winning issue, and you know how much the media loves to hear the GOP complain, just look at the numbers a study posted of how many more GOPers they put on the air to talk about the stimulus (and blast it as wasteful spending) compared to democrats defending the stimulus.

Unfortunately though, while it's obvious that Pelosi wouldn't be making this up if she had been told, she probably is finished because of the big dent this is taking in her poll numbers.
