nuke event in N.J.

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=eng

Area: USA, State of New Jersey, Hope Creek Nuclear Power Plant, Lower Alloways Creek Township,

The Hope Creek nuclear reactor here was taken off line early Sunday because of a leak in an air line to valves which help operate control rods in the reactor. The reactor was manually shut down by control room operators at 3:37 a.m., according Joe Delmar, spokesman for the plant's operator, PSEG Nuclear. A separated joint was pinpointed as the cause for the air leak. The control rods are used to shut down the reactor. Officials couldn't estimate when the reactor would return to service. Hope Creek is one of three reactors operated by PSEG Nuclear at the Island.

5. When anything leaking at a Nuke plant occurs..it is nothing to laugh about!
1st things people should ask is the age of the plant..most plants have approx a 30 year life span before components start breaking down!

Just laugh when it is in your back yard!! if not..stop the damn laughing..it is no laughing matter when there is any leak at a Nuke plant!

6. It's also nothing to shit oneself about.
And you're assuming that everything INSIDE is as old as the structure, which is essentially never the case.

7. i DIDN'T ASSUME A DAMN THING.,.THAT IS YOUR PROJECTION
I simply don't find it funny..or insignificant..i lived near Three Mile Island..when a valve stuck.. and have a home now near a So. NJ Nuclear plant..and the chief of police is a dear friend and neighbor..he doesn't think it is funny when he gives me potassium iodide anti radiation pills once a year when they are distributed to he and his police force and first responders!!

I assume nothing, but i damn well *Know* most the Nuclear plants in NJ are getting very old!

11. Blimey, calm down.
"i lived near Three Mile Island..when a valve stuck"

And? Are you posting this via medium from the great beyond?

"he doesn't think it is funny when he gives me potassium iodide anti radiation pills once a year"

Oh dear. First of all, why are you getting them once a year? They have a fairly long storage life.

And you seem to have indeed assumed one thing. KI is not an "anti-radiation" pill. It only blocks your thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine. That's it. It doesn't protect any other body part from radiation.

12. That sounds like only a little less damage than Three Mile Island
And look how the media tore that one apart. Set US nuclear energy back by 30 fucking years. I'm glad they're keeping this on the down-low. It's nothing major.
