Is It Okay for Them?
I'm getting tired of all these rationalizations over torture.

Yes, it is illegal, and people broke the law.

No, I seriously doubt any of the major players involved will go to jail for it.

Arguing back and forth about who knew what, the legality or illegality of it, and so on, will not stop a right-wing wacko from supporting torture.

So for me, this issue comes down to one, simple question:

If it is okay for us to torture them, is it okay for them to torture us?

And it does not really matter who "them" might be at the moment - another country, a terrorist group, the mob, etc.

We're America - and for good or ill, we do lead the world. many nations and peoples will follow our lead on this, and we are mere steps away from living in a torturing world.

Ready yourself - the day is coming - a week from now, or a month, or five years - when our soldiers are going to be captured, and tortured.

And when that day comes, we will have NO MORAL AUTHORITY whatsoever, to bitch about it.

Next time a right-wing wacko tells you torture is okay, ask them: "Since it is okay for us to torture, then you're good to go with them torturing us?"

1. Yeah, but then it also comes down to another issue... If it's ok for them to break...
laws, is it ok for everyone to break laws and not be held accountable?

3. Imagine if the Iranians tortured the lady "reporter".
They know we support dissidents in their country, so could they in fact torture her to get information about any terrorist activity that might be in the planning stages in their country.

Just a thought.
