I must admit I'm disappointed in Jon Stuart tonight!
I won't play spoiler for those of you who are west of here, but Newt was his guest.....

5. While I'd prefer to see Stewart tear him up
I think he's gently letting the Human Muppet hang himself.

2. Newt is insane. The republicans are sick, insane specimens.
I'm so disgusted.

So outing a CIA agent was just fine. But Nancy Pelosi MUST GO. What crap.

They're totally blind. Totally insane.

6. Jon's holding his own. And Newt is not an easy customer.

Jon's able to play his faults. Love it.

Oh, Jon just nailed him on another lie right at the end of the interview. Jon pulled it off!

7. Yep was kind of surprised how the first half of the interview went and
Then the second half Jon was back. You can trust government to run the military and wars but the government can't handle anything else big, lol.

8. Jon trashed him,
right down to the last line, where he turned Newt's little snark - "Next time maybe you'll listen," to which Stewart replied, holding up the book, "Is listening in here?" And Newt, after a barely perceptible hesitation, said "Yes, it is," to which Jon, in a gleeful, sing-song voice, "No, it isn't. I read it."

It would appear that Newt's recent conversion to Roman Catholicism hasn't taken. He completely blew it on that pesky Commandment about "not bearing false witness." I wonder if he know that means "You're not supposed to lie"?

Probably not.

The idea of Newt Gingrich - the thrice-divorced serial adulterer - writing a book called "How To Live A Successful Life" is so absurd, I'm coming very close to just going somewhere to live in a cave and then just die.

I cannot take much more of this stupidity. I really am at my wits' end ................................

11. It's ok. They invented the internets so we could endure stupidity together.
It really isn't easy to take. I never thought adults could be so pathetic. I grew up in an extremely progressive neighborhood.

By the way, I'm still in the getting-ready-to-read this online book on authoritarians. It could be very helpful in retaining sanity by virtue of understanding what makes this assholes work-

12. It's a comfort to know I'm not alone,
and thank you for reminding me. But, I still want to cry tonight.

The concept of authoritarians, the kinds of strange behavior we've seen, has, I am convinced, a huge psycho-sexual component. Just as I've found in blind followers of organized religion, there is a set of behaviors and responses rooted in deeply-buried, terribly powerful sexual situations encountered in their young years. That's what's behind so much of this torture business that we're now find out about - I have absolutely no trouble imagining people like Cheney and Yoo and Wolfowitz and Bybee and Addington and the others waiting for the written reports, the photographs, and then locking themselves in their private bathrooms and finally achieving the release they so achingly desire.

Honestly, I believe this. Sex makes the world go 'round, as we all know (if we're very lucky), and I see this motivation behind things that otherwise make no sense.

And it's the hardest set of behavioral patterns to break down.......................

16. Agreed ..........
If there were still photos, you know there are DVDs out there. And the live stream wasn't just going to Cheney's bathroom...........

18. Those are some very wise words.
I think you're in close contact with reality. Damn, all I can say is I'm so glad to be able to be a part of this forum. It's people like you who make me willing and able to continue living on this planet.

I'm 52, single, and have not been on a date since 1985. I'm not ashamed of that, although in this society that is something to be ashamed of. I didn't want to impose my will on another human being. I had my girlfriends. But I didn't want to go down that road. Instead, I went on a real estate journey. I owned farms, ranches, houses, and loved being with my cats along the way. I think people don't spend enough time with themselves. The real reason I didn't want to impose my life on another person was that I haven't been very happy. I'm probably happier than most people. But I am not in denial. I want beauty. Which is mostly why I am unhappy. Try finding beauty in 2009. Good luck. But my point was, until I achieve a consciousness that enables me to uplift the spirit of another, I would prefer to not work out my problems via a relationship. How many divorces are there? Oops. I got off on a rant here. I could go on, but I think I'll get on the tractor and clean up yesterday's bonfire. And the crows are out coasting around in the air.

By the way, if your post was wrong, there wouldn't be seven billion people on this poor planet. It's the number one force on this planet, and it's forbidden to even discuss it. Humans are pathetic. That's why hearing what you have to say is so important. I can go through this day knowing that I'm not alone.

22. Thank you .........
Me, too. The closest beauty we can find is within ourselves. Sometimes, if we're looking really hard, we have to do that by ourselves - the distractions outside are too difficult to overcome.

You have no idea how much I understand.

If we lived nearby, we'd be great friends, that's what I think.

Be safe .....................

10. Au contraire - as I saw it. Jon let him hang himself in his stupidity and inanity
and contradictions and silly false pre-occupations.
Jon had him for lunch, and then threw him up.
Anyway, that was my take.

13. Mine, too, my brilliant pal ............
It was very sly and mostly subtle, nothing terribly overt, but Gingrich was NOT happy at the end, and Stewart even nailed him at the last line.

Still, I wish people like that weren't guests on his show.....................

19. I didn't expect a hatchet job from Jon but I have to say I was disappointed
There was so much material Jon could have referenced but did not. Newt has a long history of remarks that he should have been asked about. However if Jon wants to get guests from all aspects of America he has to treat all his guests with a certain dignity whether deserved or not.
