Marie Osmond: So what if my daughter is gay?
We knew there was a reason we liked Marie Osmond.

The mother of eight told "Entertainment Tonight" she is completely supportive of her eldest child, Jessica, who is a lesbian.

"I love my daughter! She's my baby girl, come on," she said. "So what if she's gay? She's my daughter and she's an amazing woman and a good kid. I raised her, she better be good."

She went on to preach that her Mormon faith did not keep her from loving her daughter, given her sexual orientation.

1. Marie has turned out to be a pretty good egg, considering.
She seems to have an open heart and an open mind, and not be afraid to be human.

10. And I gather she has been through a lot
Maybe that softened her heart. Or maybe it was soft all along.

At any rate I enjoyed reading this.

11. One of the few Mormon women
to actually get out of the house, and see what the real world is like. I'm sure she had her eyes opened to find out that women really are not just breeding machines.

4. Good to see!
Wonder how many aunts, uncles, siblings and cousins agree with the mom?

7. I used to watch the Donny and Marie Show, too
I'd probably be more a little more country than rock and roll, though...

This just made my morning. How nice to hear she is totally supportive of her daughter, especially as she is Mormon; they are not known for being very supportive of gays.

9. Nice! A lot of "midstream" Americans will resonate to that.

Gutsy woman.

13. I am sure they will give Marie the same treatment they gave Miley
over her unchristian acceptance of us Gay folks.

15. And it will make even those who weren't thrilled about either Milely or Marie
realize that they are real people and alright in their own way.

I am becoming surprised at where the lines are being drawn in this.

Believe me, I never thought Marie would admit it if her daughter was gay. I've never heard of this and it has blown me away.

14. I hated the Osmonds
I hated their shows, their music...it was all weak sauce to the music I heard at home: my dad played Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard, my mom, folk music and show tunes.

But Marie's OK in my book. I'm glad to see it and I wish her and her daughter well, as celebrities, they will be trailblazers whether they desire it or not.

Here's to doing the right thing.

(PS I know some liberal mormons aka jack mormons, they've continually surprised and impressed the hell outta me.)

18. I wish more celebrities would take this stance publicly, especially
ones considered religious or moral or whatever.

Especially before, you know, one of their kids ends up with teh gayness...

(sorry to be cynical)

22. She's one of those "personalities"
... I can't help but like. I pay very little attention to the "cult of celebrity" but she seems to have a genuine warmth .
