'Gender-bending' fear over plastic drinks bottles
A study found that participants who drank for a week from polycarbonate bottles showed a 69 per cent increase in their urine of BPA, which mimics the female sex hormone oestrogen.

Previous studies have suggested that high levels of BPA consumption are linked to birth defects, growth problems and an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.

4. Perhaps, if we can convince the TaliBaptists, they'll ban this shit from our food supply.
Fear of "Teh Gay" runs ddddeeeeeeepppp with them.

Not that I was going to make exactly the same point, or anything.

2. Not a good idea to drink from plastic
because the imbalance of BPA can cause physical problems in both men and women.

8. I'm not much of a man, by the light of day....but, at night I'm one hell of a lover...
I'm just a sweet transvestite
From Transexual, Transylvania
Let me show you around, maybe play you a sound
You look like you're both pretty groovy
Or if you want something visual
That's not too abysmal
We could take in an old Steeve Reeves movie

6. A 69% increase sounds like a lot
but 69% above 0.001 ug/L isn't one heck of a lot of BPA. The limits of testing for this stuff is down to the femtomolar level so just saying 69% more is kind of pointless. It does sound impressive though.

9. Yes
...but not as impressive-sounding as femtomolar. I had to look it up. And that happens rarely enough to delight me.

13. I think I know what you mean
I work in toxicology and we had a test come in that said they could detect a compound down to the attomolar level. I said that was a pretty impressive precision but what good can it do? That is almost holistic.

10. What is disturbing is the background levels are measurable.
Any measurable level is too much when no safe level has been established. Better to err on the side of not disrupting hormones I should expect.

12. Avoid plastic bottles with # 7
Edited on Sat May-23-09 05:24 AM by Quantess
Look underneath to see the recycling #.

7 is the worst in terms of BPA emission.
