The True Beauty Of What Erich "Mancow" Muller Has Done
A euphemism has been at the heart of the right wing justification for the crimes of the past administration, "enhanced interrogation techniques."

Muller has singlehandedly moved the debate, though I sincerely do not believe this was ever his intention.

The euphemism has been stripped away. No longer is what was done in the name of the American people "enhanced interrogation techniques".

Forevermore, anybody arguing against the actions is free to call it what it is, TORTURE! When a rightwingnut dares to push the euphemism again, those arguing for truth and justice can state unequivocally, "Mancow thought it was just 'enhanced interrogation techniques' until he had it done to him and now he calls it TORTURE!"

What Mancow Muller has done is to force the right wing to now defend the indefensible. He stripped away the armor of euphemism in a single act.

The right must now defend torture. And having done it to the same guy 183 times, the "ticking time bomb" bullshit don't fly no more.

1. I would never put
all of my hope for their changing their minds in that basket. Odds are pretty good that Mancow will backpeddle on what he said and try to water it down, or change his stance altogether.
He is a conservative, after all.

2. At best, he can only defend torture
HE can never again say it wasn't torture. IF he does, just play the tape.

6. Right. The tape doesn't lie
He said it in front of the entire world. It's torture.

12. He's going on Countdown next week
so, if Keith can get him to say on live TV that waterboarding is torture, it will live forever on video, even if he tries to take it back later, and will only make him look a fool.

3. Those lacking empathy still won't get it
because all they saw is a guy with a rag over his face and another guy pouring water over his head. They are viscerally incapable of imagining what it's like to have that water going up their noses and down the backs of their throats.

This is why a small, stupid segment of the population will just never get it. They know what they saw and they are incapable of imagining further.

4. The opposition is redefining torture now. Torture means permanent physical injury.
This is their only way around it.

They now say this isn't torture because the person, be they mancow or a detainee, suffer no permanent injury, there is no blood, no scars, no loss of limbs.

We have to be careful to not let waterboarding be the singular technique used to define whether or not there was treatment.

Cheeeeney has been crafting the narrative: "We only waterboarded 3 people, so IF it's torture, we only tortured 3 people..."

Well, it doesn't matter if waterboarding is or isn't torture, we have to look at the totality of ALL the different techniques used, lest we let them get us focused on just one.

:patriot:

5. Before we could move to the totality of what was done
The argument that there was absolutely NO torture had to end in a very public way.

That has now happened.

7. The look on Mancow's face was priceless
he tasted 6 seconds of torture
and instantly recognized it's evil.
He was left pale and shaken.

After just 6 seconds... where he was in control...
Now just imagine how horrific REAL waterboarding might be.

10. It would have been more dramatic if the table had been positioned properly.
And if the waterboarding terrorist technique had been done in a hostile situation -- with the added stress of not knowing who, what, where, or why -- we would have seen more "terror".

13. Yeah. This guy couldn't take it, even though he knew the people doing it didn't want to harm him,
had an EMT crew waiting right there to help him if he were in danger, and had a little toy cow to throw as his "safe signal" that he wanted to stop immediately.

14. Ther are a few diehards trying to claim it's not torture
like saying torture is when you cut off body parts.

But for the most part, they are admitting it's torture and are now trying to justify the use of torture.

This moves the debate squarely back into a place where truth and justice can prevail.
