The tortue discussion may be over...........(for them)
Edited on Mon May-25-09 07:39 AM by Stuart G
The club that decides about what is to be discussed, may have decided "no more torture discussion". I am not sure, but the right wing may have decided, after one of their own declared waterboarding is "absolutely torture" that the discussion is no longer viable.

In a couple of days we will know. It may be the supreme court pick, or the so called Korean Nuke test, or whatever, but we will have to carry the ball on torture; they may have decided to act, as if the discussion never took place. That it what they do.

2. Lindsey Graham's comment from 2004 needs to be the laser focus....
which could open this can of worms beyond waterboarding, which they've tried desperately to limit the conversation to:

As Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said to reporters on May 7, 2004
concerning the pictures and videos of U.S. military torture of Iraqis
that the U.S. government still refuses to release: "The American
public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here.
We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience.
We're talking about rape and murder and some very serious charges."

And Taguba's report.

I just found this great site:

4. In the next 48 to 72 hours we will know for sure..My guess the whole
torture discussion from the right will be gone. As with other discussions, they will act as if it never took place, and that their stance, which will be much more "moderate" especially on waterboarding, will be presented as if it was always how they stood.

..All of them, will stop talking about this subject, in my opinion, and switch to the Supreme Court nominee, or the Korean "threat" or whatever else. They have lost, but they will never admit they were wrong, or made any mistakes. This is all they know.
