DAILYKOS: New Gag Rule Issued on US Scientists
"The Bushies are closet Stalinists. Any government scientist who practices their job with honesty, anyone who dares speak truth or share "non-approved" data with their employers (the American taxpayer) will run afoul of the Bush Politburo. Heads will roll.

Under rules posted last week, these federal scientists must obtain agency pre-approval to speak or write, whether on or off-duty, concerning any scientific topic deemed "of official interest..."

SNIP

"...Although couched in rhetoric about the need for "broad and open dissemination of research results open exchange of scientific ideas," the new order forbids agency scientists from communicating any relevant information, even if prepared and delivered on their own time as private citizens, which has not been approved by the official chain-of-command..."

11. It All Points Back to a Media
which simply will not cover these stories at all,
let alone with any seriousness.
In a not too distant past, real journalists would
be furious. Public outrage would have driven these facists
from office long ago. Hell, they never would have been elected
to begin with if the media were on the side of truth.

now their unelected political appointees are fanning out, Stalinizing the government.

I think we've been taken over by a hostile internal force that hatees democracy.

I've pretty much respected his request to keep our communications apolitical

19. Shit like this happens because of all the damn political appointees
who come into an agency and think they know what the hell they are doing. They do know what they are doing and that is promoting what their party wants, when it wants it and the hell with EVERYTHING else. It has been happening in ALL the agencies since numnuts got into office.

26. making official whats been going on for awhile....
This has been going on in many govt science groups for awhile, unoffically. Sometimes with people who don't even understand that they are being manipulated by Bush and Co. Creativity and novelty and good science has been made much less important than appearance. NIH in particular seems to be riddled with this attitude. A lot of very smart dedicated scientists are being muzzled or chained if not ruined when they try to speak out. EPA, FDA, NASA,NIH, USDA, all have been under assault of late. Even with putting his buds in the top positions, there still was only so much he could do agaisnt good scientific structure and rules (the scientific checks and balances of power so to speak). This must have to do with SCOTUS decision on global warming. God forbid anyone tell His Royal Chimpiness what to do! Chimpy is all knowing and all powerful! (Sauron is actually a really good name for him too):grr: :grr: :grr:
