$736 million to build a new US embassy in Islamabad.

from yesterday:

"The White House has asked Congress for and seems likely to receive $736 million to build a new U.S. embassy in Islamabad, along with permanent housing for U.S. government civilians and new office space in the Pakistani capital. "

http://www.truthout.org/052809M

Whadda want to bet KBR/Halliburton are still the contractors for this job, too?
More fried soldiers on tap????

On edit:
Wait !!! It gets better....
"The scale of the projects rivals the giant U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, which was completed last year after construction delays at a cost of $740 million.
Senior State Department officials said the expanded diplomatic presence is needed to replace overcrowded, dilapidated and unsafe facilities and to support a "surge" of civilian officials into Afghanistan and Pakistan ordered by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Other major projects are planned for Kabul, Afghanistan; and for the Pakistani cities of Lahore and Peshawar. In Peshawar, the U.S. government is negotiating the purchase of a five-star hotel that would house a new U.S. consulate. "

Looks like no employment problems for Americans in the Middle East....

4. K&R... People have to see this.
To keep my sanity I have to keep saying to myself, Obama is better than McCain...Obama is better than McCain. ...How much better I don't know.

If we invade Iran, then I can say they're both the same.

9. I was reminded of the "forts on the frontier concept"
when I looked at a map of our bases which matched a map of the oil fields and pipelines in the Middle East.

Later when the ill-fated Baghdad Embassy was built, it was often described as the only "safe" zone in
Iraq ( until the mortar fire started).

Khe San, anyone?

11. Gee whiz....
What a genius move. We have not received our state tax return even though we filed way early --- Schools are closing and class sizes are growing as campus's are combined. Teachers are being laid off as are staff such as office workers, custodians, nurses, councilors and teachers aides.

That money could have rebuilt a lot of the schools that are falling apart and put the teachers and staff back to work educating our kids... I guess war makes a lot more sense... Just more of the same old shit is what it looks like to me.
