3. Yeah but it's more ironic when it happens in a religious institution
After all, the parents are sending their kids there ostensibly to be in an environment more conducive to imparting moral values.

4. Of course it does. But the point is that it is against the rules in public schools.
Private, religious schools have their own rules and operate outside normal society.

5. The reality is that a tiny bunch of teachers
have always taken sexual advantage of their students...primarily in high schools, where the students are adolescents.

Right now, in our 24/7 news environment, such stories get national distribution, wherever they occur. That's the difference between now and the time we all went to school. Think back to your own high school days. A lot of us remember incidents where teachers suddenly disappeared in the middle of the school year. I certainly do.

It didn't make the news, even locally, in most cases, unless it was really egregious and non-consensual.

Now, every incident makes national news.

The conflict is even more confusing, since many states have set the age of consent at 16. Outside of the teacher/student environment, boinking a 16 year old isn't even against the law.

So, we're just seeing the news more. It's not that the incidence is higher, IMO.

And it has always happened in both private and public environments. How many of us don't know of an incident where the youth pastor at some church in our town hasn't been run out of town on a rail for boffing one of the younger members of the church. It happened twice in my little Presbyterian church back in the early 60s.

Propinquity and puberty make a tough combination.

7. That's very true
one of the girls in my school moved in with one of the young single male teachers right after graduation, and we all knew what was going on. It wasn't a big news story (or even a small one). Honestly I think all that happened was a lot of the other girls who had a crush on him gave a collective sigh, because he was clearly off limits once he was officially hooked up.
