Where are the ads about Americans WITH insurance who've died because they were denied care?
Someone posted about yet another anti-single payer/health care reform advertisement seen on tv.

That would make about 3 I've seen or heard about in the last month or so.

Has anyone seen any good counter ads about how they or a loved one died even though they actually HAD health insurance?

Any ads about people dying due to an inability to pay for insurance?

3. It would surely be nice if our side had it's shit together and went for the jugular
Kind of hard to do though, when much of the party is ambivalent about what needs to be done and hasn't really fought for anything in 40 years.

A good 15 or so Senators would just as soon leave insurers alone (and would if they could).

4. Stories of people with insurance
The California Nurses Association website has plenty of horror stories from people with insurance as well as those without insurance who have been denied care: http://www.guaranteedhealthcare.org/stories

There's more than enough here that could be the focus of commercials. However health care activists, especially single payer advocates, don't have the money that insurance and big pharma have to finance TV spots.

8. Moveon has been a disapointment since the electoral victory
You'll have to remember that the group was founded to support Bill Clinton. They have gone back to that mode for President Obama. Single Payer is not something the President is advocating so Moveon doesn't advocate for it either.

10. MoveOn seems afraid to make waves on health care
or pretty much on any issue these days. I think they've joined with the progressive coalition that advocates for a public option (but not explicitly single payer). IMO they tend to be cautious and are not particularly the leader on health care or other issues.

6. Here is a hint
About 20 years ago Corporate America decided to hedge its bets.

Our elections are about wedge issues now (abortion, gay marriage, birth control, gun control, separation of church and state etc)

Economic Policy really isn't part of the debate anymore. One side is slightly better than the other but even that line is being blurred.

I fully expect, that like the Credit Card legislation, we will get a bullshit bill, our side will declare victory and things will get very marginally better.

7. Agreed we need commercials that counter those anti-single payer bullshit.....
Of course the only commercials we ever see are the ones that attack single payer health care but never ones that tell the facts or our side of the story.

9. Yes, we need ads to counter rightwing BS.

We needs ads talking about the 100,000 people who die in this country every year due to lack of healthcare. And how about an ad showing a bigwig sitting at his desk with a rubber stamp that says "DENIED", and laughing uproariously while he stamps claims?
