Group says Tiller shooting suspect never a member

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- The leader of Operation Rescue says a man suspected of fatally shooting abortion doctor George Tiller is not affiliated with the anti-abortion group.

The group released the statement from its president, Troy Newman, on Monday saying Scott Roeder "has never been a member, contributor or volunteer with Operation Rescue."

Newman says Roeder may have posted to the organization's open Internet blog, but so have thousands of members of the public not tied to the group.

Tiller, a late-term abortion provider, was gunned down during services Sunday at the Wichita church he attended. Police have said all early indications showed the shooter acted alone.

Operation Rescue, which has closely followed Tiller's work, has condemned the killing as "a cowardly act."

Is that the same organization whose web site is down
for scrubbing? The same organization which featured a "Tiller Watch" on their home page? One step back from "Army of God," if you ask me.

You can't see their site right now. When it returns, I'm betting the "Tiller Watch" link is gone.

I don't believe a word they say in public. I've seen what they've said before.

Even though she supported their objectives, knew all the key members, and participated in their activities.

But her name wasn't on a list somewhere, so she "wasn't a member".
