Not Iraq War or occupation, but HOSTAGE CRISIS
I was remind of this when I read someone in the White House said troops might have to get longer deployments if an appropriation bill with strings attached passed even though the "strings" were about a deadline for withdrawal.

The Bush administration is using our troops as hostages. They want their oil company friends to control Iraq's oil, and they will hold the troops hostage there until they are sure they have got it.

Much as I hate to admit, I can understand why Democrats will not cut the war funding in that context. If they did, rather than withdraw the troops, Bush would simply let them fight until they were out of food, water, and bullets. If every one of them were then killed, he would blame the Democrats.

Something similar could happen in an impeachment scenario. Recall that after the Iraqis burned those blackwater mercenaries on that bridge in Fallujah, Bush massively retaliated against the city right after the 2004 election. He could decide it's time to go after the Shia in Iraq, or off the prime minister and install a dictator, or kick Iran hard enough that they respond, any of which would tie our troops down longer and lead to more casualties.

I am hoping this is why the Democrats are moving cautiously though I would still prefer Bush and Cheney to be removed from office the way you take a bandaid off the hairy part of your arm--quickly.

1. Threaten harshly...
with impeachment and keep the focus on Chimpie as being stubborn and not wanting to negotiate or compromise...we're giving our best offer but he refuses to budge while our troops are left to hang...play on his stubbornness or is it his steadfastness...
