What form of brain damage does one need to not only listen to Limbaugh but believe what he says
Because everytime I read about some of the crap he's been saying over on Media Matters, I'm just flabbergasted that anyone would actually bother to listen to this man and buy into the shit he is saying.

http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/shows/therushlimbaughshow

What makes it even more ironic is that these idiots are buying into a fat bastard who is probably hyped up on Oxycontin, otherwise known as 'Hillbilly Heroin'. Now the old adage about heroin in general is "How do you know when a junkie is lying? When their lips are moving" I think applies aptly to Hillbilly Heroin junkies too.

Now I appreciate that there are the good people of Media Matters who have sacrificed of themselves to listen to this crock of shit on the radio in order to inform the rest of us what he is talking about, but at least know these people are with us that truly believe Limbaugh is talking nothing more than crap each and everyday. But it baffles me that there are people out there that STILL buy into his shit like they truly believe anything he says is the truth! Honestly, what brain damage have these people sustained in order to toss all logic out the window and buy into the lies of a hillbilly heroin junkie?

Someone explain this to me because it makes no sense to me

13. That's the thing - he knows what he says is a load of crap
But he says it because he knows there are dumbasses out there that buy into his shit.

BTW, one time Howard Stern bought an office chair from Rush Limbaugh's "Excellence in Broadcasting" online store. Stern is no fan of Rush Limbaugh but wanted to see what one would get for an $800 office chair. He said it was the worst piece of crap that was poorly made and uncomfortable as can be.

7. I catch him on the way to and from getting lunch
so that's my excuse.

It is amazing to hear him riff on stuff and I can just sit there and rip each one apart with what I have read on DU. Of course from time to time it is just his opinion but he tries to pass that off as fact.

I can't really answer your question except to tell you that the station here in Richmond that carries him (and Hannnity and Savage) has a commercial about itself with a woman saying "I am fed up and angry" they then play her and others saying "angry" over and over and over. That pretty much sums it up. Detach from reality and just react based solely on your first gut reaction to what you have just been told to think.

When was that? Ten years ago? All he did was try to sell his books. Due to the "popularity," the show kept getting moved farther back into the wee hours.

10. Hate radio is big business in this country.
Take my city, Los Angeles, for example. We have THREE conservative-oriented talk radio stations (AM 640, AM 870, and AM 790) and at least two of them air that fat gas bag, along with the trifecta of stupid hate-mongerers - Hannity, O'Reilly, and Savage. Yet we only have ONE liberal oriented talk radio station (AM 1150) and that doesn't even get good ratings. It sucks, and it's one of the reasons I just turn off my radio and turn on the CD player.

I too wonder wonder what IQ level listening to the Rush Limbaugh show on a daily basis requires.

11. From personal experience (family member is a Dittohead)
I would say you just have to have a lot of hate. My aunt is a "fundie Catholic"--really severe and rigid in her beliefs. When my uncle died after suffering from cancer for eight years, she had a LOT of anger bottled up inside her (I think because her religion had "failed her", because all the prayer in the world didn't help him get better--but I can't be certain). She started becoming even more severely religious and at the same time started listening to Rush as well as a local radio idiot who's a Rush-wannabe, and watching Faux News. There's no talking to her now.

I always say that if she had had the proper grief counseling after my uncle passed, she might have come out of this in a better frame of mind. As it is, however, she pours all her venom into politics, and Rush and his ilk just feed the beast inside her.

It's sad, really. But I can say that because I still love her--I remember what she was like "before", and she does so much for me and my family. We just don't bring up politics or religion. Ever!

16. A simplistic person who feels the need...
A simplistic person who feels the need to know who to blame and why to blame "them".

I've a friend who does listen to him (and watches Glen Beck, et.al.). Everything good in his life he attributes to his own blood, sweat and tears, whilst every bad thing in his life is attributed to "them".

Recently received a raise at work? It's because he works so hard. Recently got fired from work? It's because management wants to reduce costs by hiring "wet-backs".

The words of Limbaugh allows a simplistic mind to more easily justify greed, hate and envy.

23. Actually, I think it's a normal function rather than damage.
The human brain is an amazing machine. When faced with something that can harm it, such as the realization that one's been complicit in treason in trying to rationalize one's selfish behavior, the brain can create false memories, delete them altogether or even hold two contradictory beliefs simultaneously. People who still listen to and believe that blowhard piece of shit probably have to, or face the horrors they've contributed to bringing into being.

he talked one time about hanging out with "average Americans, who only make around $150k". I heard him briefly this morning and he was talking about his 19 foot (diagonal) HDTV and his BlueRay DVD player.

How stupid are these people not to realize he is a self-centered elitist asshole?

37. It's not brain damage...
It's the howling of people whose inflated sense of entitlement and supriority were stripped from them by that librul Supreme Court decades ago. They are people who deserately need to feel better about themselves, preferably at someone else's expense thereby making themsleves somehow "better". Better than what I don't know since we're all people with flaws, but there it is...

I do have to admit to being sickly amused by those who attack the notion of entitlement (i.e. - government benefit programs) the most are often the ones with the biggest entitlement complexes. But then they say that we do tend to be most harshly critical against our own flaws evidenced in other people...

40. Limbaugh makes an appeal to his listener's latent prejudices.
Really, it's very easy. He says the right words that fire up a person's imagination about all those feminazis who don't know their place, all those brown people infesting our country and youth, all those immigrants stealing the American dream and he hooks them. He's a master at it too. Then when he has them riled up he finds someone to blame, the Democrats, the Clintons or any other convenient scapegoat to make them hate.
