I'm beginning to think that the Republicans have just given up.
Given up their chance of having blacks, Hispanics, gays or women to any appreciable amount in their party. They don't give a damn. They are a hard line, tight assed group of old, white males who basically don't care if they keep losing elections and members of the party. They are locked in a paranoid, end of times, going down in a ditch mode and destroying the Republican Party as we once knew it.

The presidency of Obama has done this to them. They have been rendered unable to think logically. their rage has sent them into a death spiral.

Not a pretty sight, but that is what we are dealing with...

1. From your mouth to God's ears....
I wish they would just give up. They need to be replaced with something a bit more sane and reasonable.

2. Rethugs
How's this for a tin hat moment? They haven't given up, they believe the computer programs they have programmed into the system will make it impossible for any progressives to get elected.

5. While we're at it, let's add "thinking people" to the list of folks they have given up on.
They've already lost the college grads. Your post reminds me that it's that tendency to idiotic thinking that has contributed to their decline.

7. I have a 16 year old niece who followed this last election and watched
the debates - she's starting to pay attention because she'll be able to vote in 2012.

Right before the Nov election, I was visiting and was talking politics with her and my brother and SIL. My niece suddenly asked "Why are the Republicans always so stupid?"

6. "The presidency of Obama has done this to them."
The RNC has done this to them.

They have promised and promised and promised the Extreme Right Fringe results on every one of their hot button issues, and yet after 8 years of majority Republican rule they have gotten zero traction on any of them. If anything things are moving backwards on many issues.

Well they certainly aren't going to blame themselves, and they really have no place else to go, so they have turned the sights of their frustration on the Moderate Repubs, and instead of screaming and frothing at the dang libruls, they are attacking the "RINOS" who surely have caused them their just victory. The last thing they want to do is include more people who are not True Believers, because those are the ones who have stabbed them in the back (as they see it).

Of course Moderates like Spector and Powell, who have put up with these nut jobs for years as a price for power, want nothing to do with the whole frenzy.

I almost feel bad for them. They were blatantly used by Republican Machine, putting a religious dope on the top of the ticket to drive them out to vote in droves, and then patently ignoring everything they promised post-election, other than throwing out minor bones like stem cell research. But make no mistake it was the Rove's and Cheney's who have driven them to this point. And the Limbaugh's and Becks who will continue to drive the cattle herd over the cliff.

8. It is a pretty sight. If the nation was rid of the GOP and all the little GOPsters, we
would be a lot better off.

Let's give them some reservation somewhere where they can create their own, Christist state (minus our financial support, of course).

Then, they can pollute and malpractice and gun-right themselves to their hearts' content.

I know - they do not have hearts. But the intent is clear.

9. Given up or shot themselves in both feet?
They've had plenty of chances change course and still the continue on full speed ahead into the iceberg.

Their party is so used to pandering to they right-wing extremist they've lost the ability to effectively communicate with any other demographic. Which is no ones fault but their own.

13. Exactly!
Then they'd have massive media coverage of all the RW extremist weeping tears of joy and dragging an icon of Christ around on a trailer hitch.

14. I think they went past "shooting self in both feet" and have arrived at "given up".
Thrown up their hands in disgust. Said "OK, fine! I won't budge an inch." and put their fingers in their ears.

But the world is closing in on them...
